Others have bought it up. Boston is in a spot this coming season with a $4.5 million cap penalty against them for last season's performance bonuses, which most of that went to Iginla.
- EKolb13

I can't see anyway Iginla would go anywhere for 1.8. There are quite a few 'cup contenders' that have more than 1.8 to throw his way

For those who give a rats ass, Eddie O was just the Game here in Chicago and had this to say.

-is not sold the Hawks won't trade Sharp
-thinks if Hawks get a legitimate #2C, Toews will be a top 5 scorer in the league
-says Saad is untouchable but would listen on TT if the return was right.
-not sold that Leddy will be a Blackhawk come opening night.
-wouldn't even attempt to sign Brad Richards, says he's too slow to play in the West.

Amen to that.

And to address another poster about Iginla, he's a RW, not a LW. So there's no Sharp replacement there.

Hey what was up with Campbell going to the Cubs with Sharp last night? I mean it's not like Campbell lives in Chicago right? Could it be to convince him to come to Florida if a trade is in place and has to waive whatever trade clause he might have?

3 way deal where we get Sharp and maybe a couple other pieces or later 1st round pick, Vancouver gets the 1st overall, and you get Kesler?

I'm gonna guess it was just a Cubs game.

If Sharp left, yes, a good replacement at LW, but no way Iggy takes that little, and the need is at C.

Cap geek says that was his cap hit last year. That is where I got the number.

EDIT: Nevermind.. I see the bonuses.. $4.2

Does Campbell still live in Chicago in the off-season?

Campbell lives here in the off season ,what ever happens is going to happen. If we all get a shot at who you want, I'd like to seeStasny with Kane & Saad. With uncle John, you never know ,he might just get a craving to tell his hockey people "make it happen"and all ofasudden, you have Paul Stasny,no one saw Hossa on the Hawks radar at first either.

You subtracted 3 and added only 1...
What are the other 2 players going to earn??

And last time I checked, Corey Perry still played a more important position, scores more goals, and plays more of a two way game……

I understand I'm in the minority. And I know the alternative is a slippery slope with Kane's ego and you might not want to go there….but jee bus, 11 mil for a person who, on paper, is a glorified Tony Amonte? Kane was 23rd in goals last year, and we want him to be paid in the top 5…? I'm more than happy to give him a significant raise. But this "Whatever he wants"…..Why even get a cap conscious GM…….

- yahoodi

Here's why:

Every team that faces the Hawks in the playoffs has said they need to know where one person is on the ice at all times. Which person is that?

I don't care about being 23rd in goals last year. What I care about is when the series is tied 2-2 and we are in overtime, where are my goals going to come from. As we've seen in the past, #88 and steps up.

You're reigning leading goal scorer in the NHL is who? What has he done in the playoffs?

$12M per!!!!

Better go for it all this coming year because the window WILL be closed. Do you keep both, then and have NO depth? Or do you trade Kane and rebuild depth?! No way they get a 2C now....

That's what I was thinking, or that I remember. I also remember Campbell being a part of Toews's un-organizaed practices in Chicago during the last lockout.

No. "Cool, calm, and collected" along with "bumholes and elbows" and "got it?" were his favorite sayings...

I can't possibly see how you can give Patrick Kane more money than Correy Perry. But hey that's just me. I find the whole "Kane and Toews have to sign identical contracts" ridiculous as they do two different things. But I get it. What I don't get it is paying someone who's only cracked 30 goals twice 11+ million dollars a year. But, I don't want to ruin this whole "Stan is the cap-master's cap master" narrative…..
- yahoodi

You can/have to give him that because the economic reality of the league has changed since the Perry contract. How can people not see this?

That's like saying Subban can't get more than $5.538mil/year because Duncan Keith, the reigning Norris Trophy Winner, makes that amount. Subban can, and should, get significantly more than that because the economic reality of the league has dramatically changed since Keith signed his deal.

This is not an arguable point.
