I'm referring to Hayes having no value to the Hawks as a commodity. Sole negotiating rights until Aug. 15 of this year means virtually nothing to any team interested in Hayes...unless some club wants sole negotiating rights for 6 weeks free of other clubs meddling.

But effectively, Hayes has no value. As of August 15 the Hawks lose sole negotiating right, and he can chat with any club and sign an ELC anywhere he likes.

But the Hawks do get that compensatory pick if negotiations fail...which is a decent result. The big drawback to drafting NCAA players who won't leave school early.
