Why would anyone give you something better?

What do rights to any UFA go for - 5/6/7 round picks?

Kid's a UFA (with limited salary rights) in six weeks.

- StLBravesFan

And we get a 2nd round pick next year in a deep draft class.

Yes.....along with defensive depth.
- UnnamedSource

Move Leddy out and bring Dahlbeck up. Or if they can make a move or two, take a run at Fayne.

Dahlbeck may be ready but is no guarantee. .....especially in his first year.....plus you have two spots......and one may go to Rundblad

Worry not, Blackhawks fans. Patrick Sharp isn't going anywhere (according to his agent) http://sun-tim.es/1nFAqdF

Hope this is just posturing and not Sharp exercising NMC

Who wants to get rid of Shaw?

Kesler /Spaezza/Thornton wouldn't get my first choice of a solution, but I'm not sure there's been much of consensus to get rid of Shaw.

I still don't think what Shaps agent said means anything. Who knows if he actually talked to Stan or not. He can say all he wants about him being unavailable. He doesn't have a say on if management does trade him. Sharp's NMC is what has a say. I think the fact that the Blackhawks declined to comment on the situation doesn't mea they won't trade him a doesn't mean they will. It leave the door comepletley wide open, and I think they're dangling him, it's just a matter of Sharp waiving his clause.

Maybe I am wrong but.
I would rather have a team that can roll 4 lines with speed and a touch of grit.
- Elbows15

I think Stan has not been in this position yet.
Meaning:
10' cup win summer of gutting the team
11' team gutted we made the Playoffs fill with old guys
12' making our way back to the promise land, small tweek needed. Change some older guys for old guys.
13' cup win. Got ride of a few filled in with mostly farm guys
14' lost in OT G7 with weakness exposed- forced to do something. The we like our team will not cut it this year. IMHO. Will he or wont he make the tough call and make a real trade or bigger signing. Not saying we dont need small tweeks but we have a hole at center on line(s)

Rundblad won't make the roster. Not on merit that is for sure.

The agent had me until he was quoted as saying "Bowman told him he would be the last guy traded".......and then yelled bullpoop

I had the thought if the Hawks had signed D. Moore instead of resigning Handzus. what would have the results been? They made the same money this season.
- Elbows15

Didn't know the financials were the same. I think anything would have been better than Handzus this year. I commend his effort, and he was a surprise ingredient in 2013, but what a difference a year makes! One of the best things I read all year was someone on here said he shoulda won the Selke because he effectively shut down Hossa, Kane, Sharp and Saad. I can't even imagine what some speed and skill would do for Kane's game out of a 2c.

Sadly I have a feeling we're getting nothing in our NHL Christmas Stocking.

I think we can assume that if Sharp has been seriously discussed with other teams, Bowman and the agent have had substantial discussions: Stan wouldn't want to gave a deal in place, ready to be announced, without knowing that Sharp (with his NTC) would approve the deal. They'd be continuously talking.

To add:
Trading Sharp and bringing in Kesler doesn't make the team better, for sure. Everyone going on about what a "dirt bag" Sharp is, has something in store for them if Kesler ever arrives.

If you don't understand the worst the Hawks can do is get the 24th pick in Rd 2 in 2015, there is no sense talking with you. It appears that you did not know this fact when you posted that Hayes has no value if he doesn't sign by Aug 15

For a 2nd rounder. They still have 2 left. Maybe he will be a throw in on another deal.

I absolutely knew it when I posted that: the Hawks cannot get better than the compensation pick for his rights - no other team would be willing to give up a second or a first for a two-month window to talk to a kid who they could get for nothing in August.

The 24th pick in the 2nd round next year is THE BEST they can do.

What am I missing?

If there is no sense in talking to me, stop talking to me.

Not sure that, other than optics, being a dirtbag is an issue. So long as the player can play, follows the game plan and doesn't allow his 'dirtbagginess' to get in the way of his game, who cares?

I'm sure Stan and sharp's agent have talked recently . But who knows what's being reported that Stan said to Curran is even true. That strong words saying Sharp's the last guy who they would trade.

The more I think of it, trading for Spezza might be a better idea. Vancouver and Ottawa's needs are different; Vancouver has an old roster and needs youth, while Ottawa is very young and needs some veterans to help with the younger players. Maybe a package of Bickell, Leddy, Hayes rights (has a better chance of cracking their lineup), and a conditional draft pick (on whether Hayes signs or not) for Spezza.
