Stastny

Have not heard boo about the Hawks having interest. But . . . if they do, he becomes an excellent option in early free agency.

A couple of, umm, problems.

1) Cost. You not only have to move Sharp (definitely) but also likely another NHL asset to fit what his salary will be under the cap and the Wonder twins
2) Other teams driving up the price in a bidding war

Would he give the Hawks a decent “deal” to come to Chicago? Maybe, Peter Stastny (his father) and Marian Hossa’s family are the hockey royalty of Slovakia and Hossa has strong ties with Peter. AND he’d get to play with either Hossa or Patrick Kane on his wing and have some monster years as a point producer. AND, he’d have multiple shots at winning a Cup.

The big issues here, though, are the potential costs of a bidding war and whether the Hawks like him on and off the ice.

Stastny’s agent also represents Zdeno Chara, Hossa’s best friend, so there really could be a Slovakian connection here.

- John Jaeckel

Couldn't agree with you more on the problems. But, this is where Stanbo could really make his mark on this team by being both visionary and creative.

Al , you've been on Spezza to the HAwks hard.

Would the deal be for Sharp + ?

Multiple assets both ways moving ?

- mrpaulish

No idea who although I would guess Leddy...

As far as being on it hard....I was on it early and caught wind and connected the dots 2 days before Spezza requested a trade.

No idea of odds but my hockey logic says better chance getting Spezza than Kesler.

Kelser in many ways better but Spezza is only a 1 year term....Then Bowman has flexibility next summer too.

Don't know...Kane and Saad really need a physical presence between them. Kesler brings all that and help on the PK. The fact that he gets Selke talk is a huge plus. Spezza just strikes me as one way player. Q demands that his C play both ways equally. Yes Spezza can put up the points, but will he hold his own on D??
- z1990z

Bingo! Give this man a prize. Physically, Kane is a beast compared to Spezza.

Do you truely believe this?

It makes sense to me because I can't see Kelser and Toews playing nice together, but if you believe Kesler's not Chi's first choice then you're in denial (or being purposely misled by your insider contact).

- bloatedmosquito

Thats insane.

Toews wouldnt welcome a real deal top 6 center thats dying to win , who brings it 200' every night ? I think Toews would be the 2nd guy to call Kesler right behind Kane

Even then, Spezza likely to be easier to fit this year too. Good chance OTT would be willing to eat some of the contract for a good return

0% chance VAN eats any of Keslers hit

Sharp is 32 and playing is best hockey, any trade involving him can't be taken lightly.

I have no desire to have Vanek on the team...none at all.

- DarthKane
Vanek is a 35 to 40 goal shooter ,and has never played with the talent chicago can boast.Or if you get him,a center of Spezza,s calibre.Chicago wants a center to play with kane ,but lacks the cap space and assets to gain one .A deal with ottawa can give them the center and a very good replacement for sharp

Cost and a 5-7 yr term makes it hard to work here.
- Al

Absolutely no chance of the Hawks signing #19 and #88 to long term deals on July 1 and then signing a 30 year old to about the same term and fairly close to the same $. Rocky's family would have him in a straight jacket in a room with rubber walls for doing that.

I will take Spezza for one year all day long before I give Stastny that kind on money and term.

Kesler is not a team guy. In Kesler's world it's all about kesler. Put Kane and Kesler on the same team (and Sharp out) they would change the locker room dynamics.

They would be unbearable together.

Wild and blues are teams to watch for Stasny. Wild will be players for Stasny or vanek.

Blues for Spezza or Stasny.

Biggest variable for Kesler scenario would be Anaheim getting Spezza and then shrinking that market for the hawks. Hawks vs eastern conference team IF any have made legit bids.

I don't see the Penguins anywhere....they have 15 million in cap space BUT they have a ton of guys to sign, and adding a Kesler would only make them more top heavy and they have been down that road the past 2 years.

Boston has no cap space. So where is the eastern conference team coming from? Kesler supposedly wants NO part of Canada.

- SteveRain

>Blues just hired "McD"-light to run the franchise -- they need to make some $
>With their very low franchise value -- #28 out of 30 teams -- not sure they can better the Avs rumored offer on the table of $5.5-$6M/yr
>Avs also will get one last "shot" to match best offer Stastny gets (Denver Post)
>Think Wild, Ducks, Avs become the final 3 on Stastny -- but, of course -- who knows?

Me too.... for Etem and the 24th at best. Just so you Nuck trolls can collectively wallow in more self pity... Perfect karma.

Kesler to the Ducks doesn't equal dynasty. Not with that coach. It equals a more physical top 6 to fight it out with the Kings to advance. I'm good with that.

Murray has such a great system but needs help at D until the kids can play. Gibson is young and could be a monster. They could be a dynasty a few years from now but Kesler doesn't help them like he helps the Hawks and the Hawks can be helped just as much with other moves at C.

Canucks have no interest in Sharp. What position would he fill? We are in rebuild mode. Doesn't make any sense.

I'm honestly not too excited about the prospect of trading Sharp. If a deal (or deals) make the team better overall then fine, but trading Sharp just to make room for Kesler isn't a slam dunk win.

The Slovakian connection could be a tipping point if all things were equal, but I reckon a team like the Blues would come in significantly higher to make the SVK factor moot. I wouldn't take $2M less per in order to play with some dude my dad knows well.
- eburgio

The Blues come in higher on salary by $2m?

Not happening. This is also a budget team. They just can't admit it yet.

Canucks could flip Sharp if he were included. Get a nice return from Chicago and then flip Sharp for some more pieces.
