With Stastny saying he will test the market, what are the Hawk chances/ interest in him
- ksilvy58

Interest would be high but likelyhood would be about nil. Even if they dumped Sharp's contract, Statsny is probably getting $7 mil per for 7-8 years in this crazy market. That would really be hard to fit under the cap in a year.

He is a $6 million player at least...Very rich for a long term deal here.

LA's a pretty smart team so the term confuses me. Even with the cap projected to rise in the future, 7 years for a 32 year old with an injury history is a disaster waiting to happen.
- Nucker101

Agree 100%. I was hoping they would pay closer to $6m but the term is not going to help their cap picture down the line.

They just damaged their negotiating position with Williams too. If they give Gaborik 7 years at 32 no reason for Williams not to ask for 7-8 years at a higher number. Maybe significantly higher.

Sharp for prospects and picks?
- ksilvy58

So the Hawks will just trade Sharp for prospects and pick, but the Canucks won't be able to trade Kesler for prospects and pick. Ok.

5yrs @ $6m? Opportunity to win multiple cups? Same arguement could be made for Avs tho

Lose sharp, steeg, rosi and maybe leddy? Provides cap room but then they have D hole to fill

Depends on how much for how much on either side. CHI has to tinker. VAN has to rebuild. Big difference. CHI would trade out of strength. VAN would trade out of weakness. Another big difference.

You could ask for picks and prospects and get it. Just when you want Saad or TT the conversation ends.

Haha interesting theory

Of corse the original post was for fun but if there are 30 rooms with 8 or more businessmen all of whom could lose their jobs for poor decision(s). I think they would use every asset they have to stack the odds in their favor. Sure some information leaks out expecially if it was beneficial to their end goal.

With you there.

This Stastny news is interesting. Maybe Sharp gets moved and Stastny is the play? They would still need to move some salary there I think but a Stastny/Kane combo would be nice.

The physical element Kesler brings would be great. Still, I hope, the top target but there are other options.

Also on Stastny - if CO does not sign him it looks like the AVs ARE a budget team. They will probably lose ROR down the line too. Nice!

True, but if they have interest in Spezza, he is a $7Mm per year player. I would much rather have Stastny. Trading Sharp frees us $5.9. Say Stastny want $6.6 or so with the chance to win cups. Seems doable.

So on the previous page TT as your 2nd line center would be a disaster but TT is untouchable in a Kesler trade. Which one is it?

Edit: form SteveRain - I consider it a failure. My opinion, but you aren't winning a cup with 86 at 2c.

I am no expert but at some point the hawks have to either man up and go for it or sit back and wonder why we are watching another team win on our ice in a game 7 OT.

As far as TT goes maybe he is unreal maybe he is the next great one.

but who will he have to play with IF that happens in X years?

I would like to see this team really go for it and put other teams on notice we are not going to sit back and wait for a rainbow or lollipop-

The core has gotten us this far with 2 more cups then I could even dream for- but a strong -solid center needs to be added to this group without giving up a Dman asset. Look at the rumors of what Bolland is going to go for.... 4+

With that said if this means we need a tweek or 2 to go over the hump so be it and that's where the experts are well- the paid experts.

JJ-

Is it likely that one of these big name players (Kesler/Spezza/Sharp) gets traded before the draft? Or will it all come down to Friday?? the suspense is both exciting and nerve racking....

What is unreasonable about that?

Sharp has not, at least so far, limited trade destinations. He could easily go to a team with space. Thus picks and prospects.

Kesler has limited destinations to a number of teams with little cap space. Unless you keep salary then salary is coming back.

If it is true as rumored that your owners are willing to pay someone else to NOT play in Vancouver then Benning has a good chance of just picks and prospects.

ANA has cap space. Another reason they probably are the front runner. If you think Etem has more upside than Leddy or TT you are nuts. Etem is a good skater but was up and down the last 2 years. Smith Pellie looks better but not the upside of TT.

Someone shoot Stan a text and tell him to get it done! Stan is becoming very Jerry Angelo'ish with the standard he holds his draft picks too.. I saw the write up on the 2010 draft.. WTF.. brutal. So it just goes to show that its a total coin flip whether TT does anything in the NHL. If he is the link to bringing Kesler here then I have no idea what the hold up is.

My guess is SB is trying to get VAN to flinch on TT. Of course this won't be the only deal for the 'Hawks either. 52.5 hrs 'til the draft!

Well apparently there's no cap penalties for early retirement on these new deals and his deal is forntloaded so in reality this may actually be a 5 year deal(gentlemen's agreement type of stuff) with him retiring early. That makes a lot more sense.

no doubt spezza isn't as good as kesler in the defensive zone, but his offense is twice as good.

on a team like chicago, with a linemate like kane, he could be ppg player and turn kane into a 50 goal scorer.

- sensarmy_11

agreed and on most NHL teams their #1 ctr isn't as sound defensively as Toews so it makes it even less of an issue.

Only if they keep half Kesler's salary.

That deal would be sweet. You could trade Sharp still or keep him and move another, smaller hit like Oduya. If they keep Sharp our top 2 lines would have it all.

I would be more inclined to move Sharp for a high pick this year or next (for the cap benefit plus return). It would need to be top 3 this year if it was straight up. You would want to replace TT in the system with one of the big 3 this year or have a high pick in the better draft next year.
