All negotiating 101 stuff here. Of course the Canucks are going to say that. And the teams on the other side are going to say, you're going to go into the season with another distraction on your hands with a player not wanting to be there like Luongo and how did that turn out?
He'll get dealt this weekend. As to where, who knows. If Vancouver had any brains, Anaheim would be the team that would pay a slight premium over anyone (PIT, CHI, whomever) as Vancouver is in the same division as them. - Hawksfan37
Exactly and if Kane really wants to play with Kesler he can sign with the Ducks after next year. |

670, the SCORE, in their updates are now mentioning Sharp being on the trade block. Tells me he is likely traded for sure. |

The thing I find very interesting is we could get ourselves a very good young player or draft pick for Sharp. - Canardhawk
In my opinion, the return for Sharp is paramount in the success of this off season, if things play out the way the smoke signals would have us believe.
If this shakes out to moving Leddy, Sharp, and Teuvo + for Kesler and some middling returns for Sharp, its a big-picture loss in my eyes. |

I think the Hawks are in the driver seat here, and I think they know it. Vancouver doesn't want to trade with either team, but their hands are tied here with the NTC and Kesler's demand of a trade. The Canucks don't want to trade Kesler to Anaheim, making another tough team in their division even tougher. They also don't want to tick off their fanbase with a trade with the "hated" Blackhawks. - hawks2010
I think the rivalry with the Hawks is all but dead. Canucks can just hold out until someone offers a deal they are happy with. |

Funny because it wasn't that long ago that Saad was just a prospect and included in some of the deals for 2C's proposed here.. I think this deal can be done without including TT (e.g. Leddy+ ____ + pick(s) for Kesler) - CBHawks88
I'd offer Leddy + Shaw + pick(s). If they're not going to offer TT and it has been rumored that the 'Nucks do covet Shaw. It'd be hard to swallow the loss of this Wolverine like hockey player but the Hawks do well at drafting these types of players (Danault, Ross, Hartman etc). You've got to give to get. |

I can see Shaw being part of the package too. We have Shaw 2.0 all over the place . Ross, Hartman , ect. |

Certainly an option. One downside, though, is that the shorter the remainder of his contract the less another team will give up to get him. As has been said about the Ducks, the most they were going to give was at the trade deadline last year when they had 2.5 years (three playoffs) left on his deal. Van won't get near as much a year from now, when there's only one playoff run on his deal. So the Canucks can keep him, but for what gain? A few extra points in the standings this year? I think he goes this summer, but not predicting where. - mohel
Agree 100%
My point is more along the lines of those Hawks fans (JJ) who believe they will get him at an absolute steal. |

I could see Sharp getting traded to Montreal or another Eastern team with a need for a top line winger before a deal for 2C Kesler/Spezza/TBD goes down...as has been said by many on this blog, Vancouver really has no need for Sharp (though Sharp with the Sedins would be lethal) bc they are in rebuild mode. Sharp for a 2015 1st and a highly rated prospect(s). McNeil, D prospect and 2014 1st for Kesler. |

The one thing Kesler can’t dictate, however, is forcing the Vancouver Canucks to trade him. Unless and until either Anaheim or Chicago presents a package that the Canucks believe is worthy, they won’t move him, one source said. These things can change with one single conversation, but as of Tuesday afternoon, no trade for Kesler was imminent.

No Saad (obviously) no TT = No deal.
And no we don't need/want sharp.
The Ducks are going to get him, then eliminate you boys come next playoffs... - Whiskey-Tango
Last I checked, the Canucks GM wears a shirt, so we know you're not him.

From a contending next season point of view, sure. Nobody knows what TT does next year, we know Shaw can significantly help our team. Long term that could be a disaster though. lol

It is a game of chicken between the Nucks and Kesler. If he pulls an Iginla and wants to go to the Hawks only - and if the Hawks suspect this - the Nucks will be forced to take that offer or keep him. Kesler could be daring them to keep him. Of course, this is all supposition on my part (about Kesler wanting one team only). The NHL soap opera continues to play out, eh? |

True. But the point is that if I'm Vancouver then you're going to have to package in Saad Shaw or TT to get a deal done. Those would be the Hawks players/prospects I'd want most.
I'm not a huge Leddy fan. |

(Theoretically) knowing that Saad is off the table, I don't see how the Hawks get him without Teuvo being involved.
My vote is to keep #10 in the Indianhead and to focus efforts elsewhere (i.e. a well-rounded bottom six than can be trusted in the playoffs), but again, I don't know how strong this Kane re-sign leverage really is. |

It's a tough call, but I would take Shaw because we know what we have. A gritty, versatile forward who can play anywhere in the middle 6 and on the PP. With Teravainen we don't know what he have, the could be Kane-lite or Skille-lite for all we know.

>JJ, Al -- Is it possible Sharp goes for a combination of 2014 and 2015 picks?
>With 2015 being a much stronger draft, would think those picks are much more valued
>Hawks then flip some combination of '14 & "15 picks and 1 or 2 prospects to Van for Kesler
>Sharp's value is likely as high as it will get and Hawks are not currently "under the gun" to move him -- which allows them to pass on underwhelming offers
>But next year's cap is looming and could be a problem -- which means waiting until then will get you less -- unless you can dump salaries equal or more than Sharp's from "lesser" players

The fact is, he has two years remaining. If we don't receive an offer that makes us better in both the short and long term we just don't deal him.
As simple as that. - Whiskey-Tango
Yeah, we heard that about Lu too. I know it's a different regime, but Benning/Linden's hands are rather tied. |

Don't get the love affair with TT as apart from one decent WJC showing, he hasn't shown much else. Not to mention the fact that he is extremely inexperienced at playing the North American game.
