Because it happens all the time. The player has earned the right to determine where he wants to take him and his family.

"Hey Patrick, we have a done deal with Vancouver. Want to go?"

"No"

Hawks move onto another suitor.

That makes a lot of sense to me. Not sure how the Pens improve with Kesler.
- spatso

Exactly. Although, given the craziness going on in PIT at the moment, I wouldn't put it past them to pull yet another dumb move...

Agreed. ... Neal is 26 years old and despite pens fans being down on him ... Will score 40 goals again playing with Malkin ... Point per game this season despite injuries and suspension ... Pens need to improve the bottom 6 and goaltending ... And can do that through free agency

As crazy as some of the opinions may be on here....The point is everyone has their own thoughts to share and really shouldn't be criticized....And that goes for my buddy Vantel...

Not that it matters what gets posted on here ,I am sure NHL GMs don't come on here to see best deals, but if you guys are one week yes and one week no, do you really need this trade?

Doesn't sound like it and there will probably be better offers from other teams willing to invest more.

Canucks will make this trade for youth so, Sharp is a non starter.

Leddy is ok ,TT is unknown , the 29 th overall is a crapshoot. I am sure as you said other teams will step up with better offers.

I'd be very surprised if the Canucks got a better offer than a young/possible top pairing defenseman, one of the top prospects in the game plus a first.

I love Kesler but if he holds that much leverage then it's silly to overpay for him. Look at past trades for better players and they almost NEVER get equal value in these types of trades.

My offer would be this: Bickell and the rights to Kevin Hayes plus another pick/prospect.

Bickell is a luxury for the Hawks to have and would fit on Vancouver's 1st line nicely with the Sedins. Maybe he can do for them what Kassian couldn't. Plus he is younger then Sharp and still has 3 years left on his deal. I don't want to hear the size argument because you can replace size and Kesler is far from Smurf so you're getting size and the better player back in the trade. Hayes will most likely not sign with the Hawks but he will sign somewhere where he'll compete for a roster spot this year. He'd be a nice young piece in Vancouver.

If the Sutter Pouliot and the 22 nd deal is in fact a real offer ,IMO that is a better offer.

Theodore and the 10 th from Ana is a better offer.

Hey John...

I have been reading this guys rumors on and off for about 8 years....Never been close to correct, not even with the Sens who he is supposedly wired into.

The point is Kelser has some control but in the end he will end up where the Canucks feel they get the most value and are shielded from the backlash this deal could cause.

Bruce Garrioch of the reported the following yesterday in the Ottawa Sun: “In the case of Kesler, he requested a trade last fall and only wants to go to either the Chicago Blackhawks or Pittsburgh Penguins.”

So by past performance I wouldn't put any stock in the comment above...

That said it is a safe bet most players would have the Hawks high up on their list.

- Al

c'mon Al....don't be rumor mongering kill joy...its bad for the post season blogging business...

so Kesler coming to hawks has swung to a fever pitch....next up is the fever breaking in about the next day or so

I would think ANA would have to overpay to get him in a division rival. Benning won't have it unless it's a ridiculous offer imo.

Actually the other scenario for the Hawks will be similar to the Pens...3rd and 4th lines were outplayed in the playoffs...especially the 4th line.

Yep....

Benning won't have to reach for a trade....Different than Luongo and even then he was dealt to the East.

Hey Vantel talk about funny...

Remember when Luongo was going to bring a wealth of riches back to the Canucks and you harped on that point for many months...And I told you there was little chance of that happening.

That's what was really hysterical...

I think/hope that wasn't a real trade offer...I wouldn't do that if I was PIT. They have more pressing needs. The 1st alone can get them a solid (not superstar) top 6 winger, why bother messing up the 3rd line and losing a top D prospect?

Pens not moving maata or poulliot ... Depres or dumollin is the best their going to offer ... As I ve said their needs are bottom 6 and goaltending ... Rutherford would be fried in Pitt for moving a first ... Not happening

Perfect. Then give us some insight about what makes him a bad team guy.

I've said enough...it'll come out sooner than later. Why would a guy with his scoring history and 'leadership' even be on the trading block if there weren't other things going on?

I agree with you...

Here's what I'll state: IF that is the case (and I believe you), I 100% believe that every other team in the NHL also knows this.

Hawks haven't had a true 2nd line center either time they won the Cup...
I think that could change this summer but if not Plan B will be to add some veteran depth.

When the Hawks won the Cup in '10 and '13 they had the best 3rd and 4th lines in the NHL....That was not close to the same this year.

Have to careful, Rutherford can be a bit of a mad bomber. Kesler in Pittsburgh seems more bizarre than anything else. Why would a guy ask for a trade to a team that likely does not provide a good fit.

No one wants to see Kesler traded, but he deserves a shot at a cup. Hearing a first round pick has to be one of the pieces coming back. Not sure the #27 pick is what they would want. It has to be a win/win for both teams and this deal will be critical to the future of the Canucks. I don’t buy the fact that there are only two teams on his list either, that’s just a homer reporter trying to drive up Spezza’s price. Kesler would put the Blackhawks over the top, would Spezza?

Kelser is a hockey players hockey player....Does everything well and seldom makes a big mistakes defensively...Different player but kind of like Hossa in that regard.
