to add to Chicago's depth I would like to see Leddy/Oduya sent in a deal for Z. Smith, Greening and a pick.

Others steps that would lead to an adequate summer to me would be:

Leino if under a mil could be an acceptable risk if he can be productive (19 goals). I would be receptive to Versteeg, Roszival going somewhere for 2015 picks. Re-signing Ben Smith is a must. If Q refuses to play Morin then trade him, hopefully in a package for an Eller/Schenn type of young #2 center. Sign a vet depth dman to pair on the 3rd pairing with Dahlbeck. Would like Regin back but he seems to be disliked by Q.

Seems simple, right?

You touched on some good points, although it may not be that easy.

First, Smith needs to be re-signed. He may not be a superstar, but he's the versatile forward that Versteeg was suppose to be. He's the type of depth forward any team needs to be successful. I know Stan is talking with Smith's agent, but I don't expect negotiations to get too serious until Kane and Toews are signed.

Zack Smith would be an excellent addition, but that may be a difficult trade. But I guess it depends on what Murrary gets back for Spezza. Regardless, if I were Stan I would look into this.

I don't think he should play there but I don't think that that was a totally failed experiment. And that was all I was trying to say there.

Disagree that he is sub par at defense.

Any way you cut it they need at a minimum 1 NHL center with experience and a decent pedigree that can compliment Kane OR be a shut down specialist and take some pressure off Toews and Hossa to play the higher quality of competition.

Kane does not have the size to win board battles consistently nor can he stay back as centers do and still be a threat for the stretch pass.

Hi Everyone

Checking in it appears that I missed the league announcement, declaring the rest of the NHL as new Hawk ahl affiliates.

One morsel from the other day that cracked me up is that in referring to Kane potentially leaving because of his frustration over skating with museum exhibits, that it was OK and let him go, that he must not want to win that bad.

Newsflash for some, without Kane, you don't win anything. Without him you drift back to the middle of the pack. Without him, Q looks like an average coach. To act as though the hawks are doing him a favor in letting him be part of something, he actually built is a tad out of touch.

Anyways, the Kane thing is the elephant in the room. All the speeches etc will not matter if he has to skate with 20 different forwards every game.

Lol. Thats right.

Value for Value is the truth.

Not going to vet a top 6 center unless Sharp or TT or Leddy or some combo is involved.

One of the Hawks PR guys (Pete Hassen) just tweeted a picture of Sharp, who might be the only Blackhawk still living in Chicago right now, shooting a commercial at a local car dealership. Needless to say, doesn't look like he is getting moved any time soon.

If so, I doubt Hassen would be publicly touting Sharp's on and off-ice work ethic as he accompanies him on the shoot. And I'm guessing the dealership would be less than enthused about having Florida Panthers forward Patrick Sharp hawking their cars.
