Why is everyone yelling for us to get eastern conference guys, the west dominates for a reason.

Sharp and leddy/oduya to tallon for first overall pick, then use the 9.7 M cap space to sign Paul Stastny, you that 80 point North American Olympian natural center, and another role player. Would even make that trade for the 9th overall pick to Winnipeg or FLAs 31st.

yes, kane is good enough of a player to hold his own there

but NOBODY would ever say he excelled at it though

back to my point, why have an a potential all star caliber wing take a step back and play center at a lower production rate when you can just go get a natural centerman?

He scored more even strength points playing center than he ever has at wing. The power play was garbage that year and no one put up points there. If that is anywhere near normal he probably has a career year.

Obviously special teams are important to success. However, I would judge 5v5 performance to be a much better indicator as to how effective a player is especially in a one goal game.

Patrick Kane was 5th in the league in 5v5 close scoring in 11-12. Kind of awesome and kind of a big deal. Tied for 5th in terms of overall production, 11th if you count goals in front of assists.

Point being is that while the point total isn't great, which is due to garbage special teams, to say Patrick Kane was ineffective at center is a fallacious statement and one of the great myths of Chicago sports.

Did he really spend that much time at center that year that you can look at his full-year statistics and make the leap to he was very good at center?

Tomas Plekanec could be available in mtl

Would you do something like

Tomas Plekanec
Josh Gorges
Magnus Nygren

vs

Brent Seabrook
Phil Danault

- koniglaro

I'd probably do that deal. But the Hawks never will. Seabrook is Teflon and he isn't going anywhere. At least not this year. But if his play continues to degenerate and his reputation continues to inflate, it will simply be a good business decision to consider trading him.

But right now, he's too valuable to the Hawks to trade, certainly in the Hawks eyes. But let's see how Seabrook plays in 2014-15 and see how good Stephen Johs is/might be before that's even considered…...

If the Kings buy Richards out as rumoured, and depending on his salary and term request, he may be the best solution. That way the Hawks don't give anything up to aquire him and can make seperate deals to bring in some depth forwards, preferably one of them being a center as well.

The Kings have already announced that they will not be buying out Mike Richards.

Yes. He started the year there, until Kooga came I think, and certainly finished it with Toews being out for the last 22 games where he strapped them on his shoulders, put up 19 points and backed them into the playoffs.

Im certainly not advocating him playing him there but he wasnt as bad as everyone says is the point im trying to make.

What do you think if Marc Staal comes the other way

I agree about his regression though.

The Saad at center thing was tried in camp last year. It didn't last long. Obviously, it's not going to work.
- EKolb13

Ok, I give up. I didn't want to do this, but I may just have to come out of retirement and fortify our 2C issues. And, it would please the guys who want to get rid of Bollig, too, because I can still chuck 'em.

Don't know if anyone has posted but Tampa just signed Alex Killorn to a 2 yr deal at $5.1m total. Would have looked good in a Hawks jersey...

to add to Chicago's depth I would like to see Leddy/Oduya sent in a deal for Z. Smith, Greening and a pick.

Others steps that would lead to an adequate summer to me would be:

Leino if under a mil could be an acceptable risk if he can be productive (19 goals). I would be receptive to Versteeg, Roszival going somewhere for 2015 picks. Re-signing Ben Smith is a must. If Q refuses to play Morin then trade him, hopefully in a package for an Eller/Schenn type of young #2 center. Sign a vet depth dman to pair on the 3rd pairing with Dahlbeck. Would like Regin back but he seems to be disliked by Q.

Seems simple, right?

If true, this is good news. That cap hit will handicap their roster for some time if he continues to regress.

What good is that when he can't win a faceoff or play a subpar defensive game at center? Part of his game is predicated on being able to fly and receive the stretch pass and he can't do that at center. If thats all we need we might as well pencil in TT at 2C now.

Don't laugh too hard though, this could be the Hawks with Hossa in a couple of years.

Versteeg and Rozi would be pure cap dumps and addition by subtraction. No one is dumb enough to take our garbage for free.

I don't think he should play there but I don't think that that was a totally failed experiment. And that was all I was trying to say there.

Disagree that he is sub par at defense.

Any way you cut it they need at a minimum 1 NHL center with experience and a decent pedigree that can compliment Kane OR be a shut down specialist and take some pressure off Toews and Hossa to play the higher quality of competition.

No.

Seabrook and Hossa would be next in line for that.
