Squashed by Lombardi. Richards is either getting traded or staying put.

Who would take that contract? Perhaps if the Rangers eat half of it.

LA needs to sign more than that for next season, but they should be fine. LA's issue is at the end of the following year, they have several key free agent and depending on what happens with the cap not all can be kept.
- DarthKane

Kings don't need to sign more than that. Dwight King is an RFA and will get a modest raise, probably to the $1.5 mil range. Brayden McNabb is an RFA and will probably get the minimum raise. Besides that, the Kings have 3 UFAs that they have any interest in bringing back, and they will only resign 2 of them. Gaborik and either Mitchell, Greene, Schultz, or a UFA, in that order of priority. The $10 mil I was talking about already included the RFA resignings.

Because if a team like Columbus wants him, then they will have to enter a bidding war with Chicago to get him as a free agent. If they grab him on waivers, then he's a Blue Jacket, just like that.
- tkecanuck341

But why would any team want him till 2019-2020 when he's been regressing for the past two years and gets paid like a top six forward......GM's won't do that....they would be willing to risk losing him in a bidding war instead. That's why if the Kings don't buy him out all he would be worth are mid-level picks and prospects.....the other team is assuming the risk and paying him the money.....till 2019-2020.

That being said....if he is bought out I would love to have him on the Hawks for 2 years...maybe 3 at a cap hit of 2.5 to 3.5 million a year.

My point is that the Kings cap issues aren't for 2014/2015, they be the season afterwards when then have more important RFAs and UFAs.

Except that isn't how it works. No one wants him at almost 6 mil a year. I know what your saying in theory but the reality is much different. There is a very limited number of teams that both want him and teams he wants to play for. The Hawks could sign Bolland for less for instance. At this point, they are the same player.

In the world of the NHL where defense is King.....if I'm a GM and I hear you're going to offer Alec Martinez a modest raise of 1.5 million I'm going to offer sheet him at double the price......besides that how much are you going to pay Stoll?? Justin Williams? How about Kopitar the year after........how much do you think Gaborik is going to want?.....also enjoy Gaborik once he gets paid and he sits out because he stubbed his toe....you will then realize why he's been on three teams in three years.

He's been "regressing" for exactly half of one season. Let's not forget that he was 4th on the team in scoring this season, behind only Kopitar, Carter, and Williams. A return to a offensive-minded team like the Penguins or Lightning would increase his production by 30 points.

If a team like Florida would pick up Brian Campbell's contract, then I bet a team like Calgary or Buffalo would pick up Richards, considering they're in no danger of having cap issues in the next 6 years.

Canuck fans apparently thought my trades and line ups were real. And they are getting a little pissy that the Kesler market is shrinking.

Florida picked up Brian Campbell for Rusty Olesz...it was a salary dump for salary dump.....it was not a buy out situation.

Last two full seasons he's had 40 some points....down 20 points from when he was with the flyers.....What line would he center on Pittsburgh??? and without St Louis the lightning are no longer offensive minded......

What? What good is Richards to a rebuilding team..especially 4 years down the road?

Alec Martinez is under contract for another season, and then will be a UFA, not a RFA. Offer sheets are not an issue here. I think you misread Dwight King as Martinez. I don't think we are in danger of losing King to an offer sheet. Perfectly reasonable raise for a 3rd line RFA.

Next season, Williams will get Dustin Brown money (~$6 mil), Stoll will get around $4 mil, and they'll probably offer Martinez in the $3 mil range (keep in mind, he is a 3rd pairing defenseman for us). I expect Gaborik to sign for $6.5 million.

If it plays out like that, we are looking at a cap hit of $76 million for 2015-16, which with the current rate of increase, should be a few million below the cap.

Leadership, experience, and eventual rental return value, considering that if they claimed him on waivers, they would have to give up nothing to get him.

It's a moot point though, because he's not getting bought out.

So if Dave Bolland....who hasn't played a full season in five years gets 5 million per....you think Stoll gets 4???? You going to give Justin Williams at the age of 34 Dustin Brown money???? Yikes......

You're probably right.....but he should.....and if Lombardi doesn't that means he's fallen in love with his players....which is a huge mistake.
