reality of the situation is MAF got better last year, is on a relatively fair contract and there are no real legitimate options out there to replace him that arn't bigger gambles than keeping MAF. Better the devil you know than the one you don't. It would make sense to acquire a better goalie... a rask, lunquivst, quick, etc. that isn't gonna happen. The pens are gonna have a lot of rookies on d next year and can't risk a gamble like a riemer in net.

Still stubbornly likes Craig Adams... bring on the hate, Craig's my boy, and really for no reason at all.

None needed, their numbers were pretty similar. The only numbers with a big discrepancy was 5,000,000 vs 600,000.

If MAF is on the move.... send him to Calgary for Sven Baertchi (Spelling?)?
- kfinl170

once again you are all high, MAF is a quality starting goalie, a 3rd line winger or an unproven prospect who cant even crack the flames lineup?!?! no thanks...

what about games played, or wins?

64 games vs 20, and 39 wins vs 12, no discrepency there, youre right lets trade him for some joke rookie and rely on zhatkoff, thatll work out real well

Personally I don't give a poop what they do as long as we get better. If that means trading 87/71 then winning 3 cups go for it.

Seriously? The kid was a top ten pick a couple years back, had a steep learning curve coming from Eruope and he doesn't fit the "Brian Burke Mold." Has a ton of potential as a top 6 scoring winger and isnt 21 yet. People want to buy out MAF completely so at least with this proposal you get a potential top 6 wing and build up our forward depth. Isn't that what we are all screaming about anyway?

I think more focus should be on moving Scuds than trading MAF for a G that might be as good as him.

not me, im screaming about buying out MAF to sign reimer...maybe for sven baaertschi and their first or 2nd round pick, even still I would want a younger player who has NHL experience if i was letting go of our goalie who won close to 40 games for us, maybe and I mean maybe a monahan for fleury swap though i doubt the flames do that, and Im not sure I would be comfortable doing that

oh and fleury was a top 10 pick too, who currently plays in the NHL and at least regular season stats is pretty dominant

Besides wins, which is more so a team stat than a goalie stat, what stats of Fleury's are "dominant"?

Right but he has already reached his potential and we know what he is. Just for the record I love MAF but do understand the circumstances with the cap. Baertchi is just a name I floated based on the list of teams the one posted provided on teams who might be interested in a trade. I just know other teams have seen his playoff collapses (albeit not this year) and with his cap hit the return will be limited. If he is traded, someone with Baertchi's upside/potential should be the targeted return.

There's the whole performance element that you left out, no biggie though.

played just fine. Let in few soft goals throughout the year. Unless its a total f'in superstar you aint gonna find better goaltending. and yes, one might find equal goaltending for 1-1.5 less per year. but it also could be worse. not worth the gamble in my opinion, and also thankfully sounds like JR's opinion as well. MAF got his psych on and got better. shows he's willing to do what it takes to improve. deserves to prove he can continue to trend upwards

hes top 10 or so in most goalie stats for starting goalies, dominant I suppose isnt the right word, above average is more like it...3rd in shutouts too even with AHLers in front of him, that awesome 3rd and 4th makeshift lines etc...

and im not sure hes reached his potnetial, hes already gotten better in the playoffs this year compared to the last few years, lundquist is older and in his prime so i think flower still has years of quality goaltending in front of him

maybe im nut swinging bc my brother is a goalie and i dislike how people blame him when the team is at fault, and dont get me wrong im the first person to say something about a soft goal...

39 wins, Pens were a dominant team most of the year, back to back shut outs against the team that lost in the finals, under 30 yrs of age, only 1 yr left on his contract, yeah lets trade him for a G that has won 0 playoff rounds, almost 0 playoff experience, and will not promise to perform at the same level only because he has better advanced stats?

Awesome using stats to build a team will look like the Oakland A's and be marginally better than average and not really ever win anything!

JR on Sutter:

"I think Brandon is a very good player and a great person. With the role he has played here, I think that if he's utilized in a different way, he has even more to offer."

I like Sutter and with the right supporting cast on his line he is a valuable player. What is he worth? That's where the real speculation starts.
