I'll just say this and move on:

I don't harp on everything the Flyers do as bad. In fact, I try to take an optimistic view most of the time. However, given some of the deals the Flyers have handed out, and the end result of some of those deals, it's completely fair to question the decision making process at times.

Ilya Bryzgalov, signed to a massive deal, bought out after two years. Vinny Lecavalier, signed to a significant deal, being shopped around 12 months later. Two players that signed long terms deals (Jeff Carter & JvR) who were traded before they had played a single minute for the Flyers under them. This team had the highest paid defense corps in the NHL and it's considered a weak spot by most people who analyze the game.

That's not to entirely throw them under the bus. They're a competitive team. They make good decisions in a lot of cases, because if they didn't, they'd be the Isles or Leafs.

But being concerned that they're spending $12.1mm a year on Nicklas Grossmann, Luke Schenn and Andrew MacDonald is far from shredding them and being overly critical. It's possible to understand the rationale behind the decisions they made and disagree with them.

Ha! Quick question, then: Would you do Schenn, Coburn and 17 for either Campbell or Howden and the No. 1? I'm biased, but you tend to be pragmatic about such things and I'm curious if you think Ekblad is worth it?

Including me, but I was specifically addressing something MJL said. Personally I was ready to go with Bob. I mean we wont rehash this again, but I felt they misused him terribly in the playoffs the season before, basically benching him after one mediocre period. IN HINDSIGHT the way Lavy handled the goaltending that playoff he should have been fired.

Ha! Man, I liked Peter Laviolette overall, but he needed to get punched in the junk for a few reasons.

I don't see how trading Carter and JVR falls under the same umbrella when looking at player contracts. Neither contract for those players were bad deals. The team just decided to go in a different direction.
And how many times have you, yourself stated that you were happy with the Carter trade? Now it's being used as an example of poor decision making by the team. Seems to be playing both sides of the fence. And if we're also going to look at the perceived bad deals, how about the good deals? No team is perfect. But the Flyers are expected to be. And I think it's about perception. If I thought MacDonald was a 3rd pair defenseman, I'd question the move also. But I disagree with that thinking. I guess we'll find out who's right.
12.1M for 3 good NHL defenseman isn't a bad deal. And if we want to talk about the highest paid defense in the NHL, we have to talk about the Pronger injury. Because if that doesn't happen, who knows what the defense would look like. Would they have dealt for Grossmann, or MacDonald. Would they have signed Streit? So to omit that, lacks context.

I'd think it'd begin with Washington at #12, that being said I don't think Milano is that far behind.

I like him, he has play maker written all over him & as the season went on began shooting the puck more.

Only thing I could come up with that makes sense both ways.

Coots
LSchenn
17th pick
Hagg

for

Ekblad

And I'm not crazy about it either. But you keep BSchenn as you cant afford to lose him at LW. And you have Laughton to replace Coots as that's who he is best set to replace in the lineup. Idk, Its the only thing I can come up with that is both fair and makes some sense.

I'm going to feel like Brian Burke hoping Brayden Schenn drops to my team... hopefully it'll end better for us than it did for him.

I'll preface this by saying I don't know a lot about Ekblad. But no way in hell would I make that move. Ekblad would have to be a generational player. And to my limited knowledge, he's not viewed that way.

I wouldn't worry, there to me is still solid talent in the draft...........it just so happens to be they'll need time to develop.....That falls perfectly into Hexy's plan to draft & develop.

I have my 10 for now, which I am considering removing 1 player off and adding one I recently removed, but I've started looking at who I'd like to consider in later rounds.

I'm in no way saying Id do it. Just answering the "what it would take" question. That's what I can come up with that doesnt completely destroy the roster.

For what its worth I think it's incredibly unlikely they even consider a move like that.

He's everything you want in a D-man, he's going #1, Florida if they select him will have a really solid core on the back end going forward.

Even though they could use some wingers, there just isn't one worthy of #1 overall.
