I KNEW you'd go there! I almost said something about how I wasn't imagining what he was wearing. And he's in swimming trunks - the long ones... Maybe an open button down shirt over that. Depends on how nice his back muscles are.

So he's a 50 year old man in your eyes.

I just wish, for once, we as a fanbase just looked at one of our own players and gave them the credit they deserved.

Since 2007, the Flyers have made the the playoffs six times in seven years. Jason Smith's gone. Matt Carle's gone. Chris Pronger's gone.

Only two defensemen have kept right on ticking for the Flyers throughout all of it: Braydon Coburn and Kimmo Timonen.

It says something, to me anyway, that the one season the Flyers missed the playoffs was, among other things, the worst season of Coburn's career.

This guy...the Flyers' PK has been a strength since 2007. He plays tons of games and minutes, against the opposition's top lines, and is a net-plus for his career.

He's not Shea Weber, and I'm not saying the guy can never be traded.

But we're gonna miss this guy when he's gone. I firmly believe that. He does stuff for the Flyers that nobody else on the roster can do, and he is absolutely part of the solution, not part of the problem.

He definitely has a nose for defense

I agree with his value to the team, but that is also why he has good value to other teams. Hence the fan created trade offers which are trying not to be homerish by getting something for nothing.

Wasn't Smith a wife-beater? I used to dislike Coburn, but hes kind of grown on me. If he can lessen those inconsistency curves to his game. I'd be cool for him for 5+ years.

You're thinking of Jason Smith the NBA player.

Couldn't agree more. Coburn's value to this team's blue line over the past couple of seasons is probably equal to Timonen's. He is an incredible skater and can play in all sorts of situations. Yeah, sure, he has some inconsistent stretches and can make some dumb mistakes, but honestly, what defenseman that isn't of a Pronger/Weber/Doughty level doesn't? Coburn, to me, is one of those players that when he does his job, nobody notices and he gets no credit, but when he makes a mistake, everybody calls for his head. He is currently the best all around d-man on this roster given Timonen's age, in my opinion. He is 100% part of the solution, not the problem, just as you mentioned. He could VERY easily be a number 2 or 3 defenseman on a Cup winning team.

I stand corrected. The other Jason Smith had all the charges dropped. Wonder what happened to Hockey's version.

Grass is greener.

I have specific reason I want to trade Schenn or Grossmann-Neither is good with the puck, provides much offense and they are limited. Coburn's weakness is hockey sense. Not ideal, but he's big, good skater, capable of moving the puck and playing a ton of minutes.

He really only struggles when he has to be the alpha dog. So he ain't Batman. He's a damned good Robin. And he's reasonable against the cap.
