I still think Yandle is a good fit. The only reason he's on second pairing is because OEL is so damn good. Although Anaheim might want Spezza, I don't think I'd want any of their left side defensemen. Shattenkirk is right handed, no? This is all assuming that a #2 D is the trade target. It may well not be.
- Stringer74
Yep he is ,i have no problem with him but we have a bigger need ,up front .He would slot in on the second pair and allow Ceci to move to the third, not a bad idea to shelter Ceci give him some time to grow a bit more .

But Spezza leaving makes us kinda weak down the middle,i want a decent center coming back for him

Another guy I like after ROR and Evander Kane is James Neal in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a awful mess. They have $61m committed to 14 contracts. They desperately need to move some bodies and Neal is probably the odd man out. He certainly falls within the Murray definition of hard, perhaps too hard, more like dirty.

Nobody will touch Letang or Fleury and the Penguins need to make some moves. I think Neal is one of the guys to go. I assume Pittsburgh wants young forwards with high end potential that are on entry level deals (Stone).

did you just read this too:

•Will DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh Sports: Hurricanes GM Ron Francis’s top priority is to get Cam Ward’s $6.3 million cap hit off their books. He has two years left on his deal totaling $13.5 million. Rumors that they are willing to eat about $4 to $5 million of his salary. Source says Flames president Brian Burke is a big fan of Ward, but Ward has a no-trade clause that could complicate things. The Senators have shown interest in James Neal.

he would be a good add, would give us a solid top six. pitt would probably want more than he's worth though, IMO.

What would it cost though? They won't want or need spezza.

He's also pretty dirty.

Do they have any amnesty buy outs?
- david22

Can't amnesty Letang, can Flower but I do think both can be traded.

Personally if Ottawa was smart I'd want them to go after Letang or Neal from Pit... There are a few guys aroudn the league right now that have a low percieved value and there is risk to acquiring them but if they work out would be a steal.

I'd trade Prince, Methot and 2015 2nd for Letang ($1M salary per season eaten)... Letang will bounce back ina huge way, you heard it here first. The guy will be a Norris candidate next year and if Pit is stupid enough to trade him then it's their loss.

Other guys around the league I'd target are, Grabovski, Franzen, Kadri, Vanek, Marchand, Stall (Marc)

Sign me up. Great shooter, possession wizard, in his prime at $5M/yr until 2018. He would fight Ryan for the top line. This guy is good value. Cost. Per. Point.

Who do we trade to get him?

They'll want Lazar. At least they'll start there.

Prince and a second isn't going to get it done.

Probably Wiercioch too, which sucks, and maybe even more. Really, PIT should keep him, he's probably their best forward aside from Crosby and Malkin.

Is there any possible way we ca snag Yandle out of PHX?

I'd probably trade Spezza straight up for him.

And, in addition to that, if we could snag Neal out of Pittsburgh for something like Smith, Stone + prospects- our lineup actually looks fairly solid

Mac - Turris - Ryan
Neal - Zib - Michalek (playing off wing)
Hoffman - Lazar - Condra
Greening - Pageau - Neil

Karlsson - Yandle
Methot - Cowen
Ceci - Phillips

Bottom 6 needs work, but those pieces are a lot easier to plug than top 6- and that top 6 has the potential to score a ton of goals with two of the better snipers (Ryan and Neal) as a 1-2 punch.

Plus we'll still be way under the salary cap.

Out: Spezza, Michalek (@4.3) = $11.3 mil
In: Yandle, Neal, Michalek = $13.25

Stone could entice pittsburgh, he's very unproven, but he looks good.

Smith though, they already have him in Sutter.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't think we need Shattenkirk, and Berglund is having major surgery. Shats would be either playing his off side, or behind Karlsson. Weircioch is good enough for second pairing.

he'll end up in st louis.

the fact that he wants to be there bodes well for his value, as well as the likliehood of him signing an extension.

I cant wait until we move Spezza for an injured Berglund and a 2nd. Our franchise meltdown will be complete and hopefully it signals the beginning of the end for Melnyk when things go even more belly up financially

Well I'd much rather try to get Sabotka than Berglund or Shattenkirk, if at all possible. As for Anaheim, I'd target Perreault.

why?

he's 26, career high of 18 goals/40 pts, he's small..........not sure why you'd want him as a cornerstone piece in a spezza deal. there are 10 guys (not including fowler, getzlaf, and perry) in anaheim that i'd want before him.

Because I think he's under valued. He's solid defensively, would slot in at 3LC nicely. He's a good shooter too. His size probably limits his shot quantity though. Not saying he's perfect or the only piece, but all I see from Anaheim are core pieces and spare parts. There's no defenseman I want from them either. Remember that Anaheim probably rode some good luck into the playoffs this year, and Perreault is one of the few that drove possession, and has consistently over his short career.

seriously?

lindholm would be on our top pair, and vatanan would easily slot into our top 4.

i get the possession thing, but when the rest of your resume is sub par..........

spezza is probably a top 15 center in this league, or close to it. you don't trade him for a package where the main piece is a 26 year old "good 3LC". perreault is likely as good now as he'll ever be, which is average at best.

i'm not opposed to a deal where he's part of the package, but he can't be the best asset coming back.
