Signing Vinny in the first place was dumb. Getting him out of town (perferably without having to retain salary) is about the smartest thing they could possibly pull off this summer. If that means they get only a 7th, or nothing at all, so be it. - Tomahawk
It didn't look so dumb at the start of the season. He was the only guy scoring for the flyers early in the season. I don't like his contract. I don't like the $$$ or the years. I don't really see them being able to move him. I'm hoping his poor play was because of injury and that he'll heal up over their summer and be effect next season. I dont know if it was a dumb move. It was risky and it sure hasnt worked out so far. What's done is done. I'm hoping for the best. [/img] |

Go look at the reddit mock draft. It's not quite the same thing, but Vinny has attracted interest, and teams are offering decent packages.
"The Dallas Stars have offered 2014 4th, 2015 3rd and Vernon Fiddler for Vinny Lecavalier if we retain some of Vinny's salary."
"The Nashville Predators have offered their 1st, Paul Gaustad and Ryan Ellis for Brayden Schenn, Vinny Lecavalier and our 1st."
I don't think so many people view Vinny as a black mark to stay away from. - JAKEw1234
Flyers would jump at those offers. They are nowhere in the ballpark. |

Isn't Fiddler a UFA? |

Can someone tell me what the bonus clauses are for Kimmo? Games played or individual performance or team performance or what? |

I don't think the Flyers would jump at them. Not giving up Schenn in that Nashville deal. And how much salary are the Flyers retaining in the Dallas deal? That's an unknown there. |

But if they are not met, how do you know there will be a cap hit? Does the cap hit occur even if the bonuses are not paid out? That would be pretty weird.... |

I thought Nashville was picking higher. I would definitely jump at the Dallas deal and offer to retain $1M per year |

How do you know that? - MJL
I don't know for sure, but the Flyers have found a way to consistently keep a little over a $1mil in cap space every year for emergency scenarios and injury call ups and trades, etc. So I'm sure that they will do the same this year (if there isn't even more space this year with Hexy running the show.) |

That Dallas deal is impossible because Fiddler is a UFA. But I would trade Vinny for the 2015 3rd alone and keep $1mil in salary. |

The bonus cushion is available in every season for the current CBA. The performance bonus cushion allows teams to exceed the upper limit with performance bonuses to a maximum of 7.5 percent of the upper limit. Once earned they are then added to the team's final cap number for that season. If they push a team over the upper limit, the amount over must be carried as a penalty on the following season's cap. Boston is going to have carry around 4M on next years' cap for signing Jerome Iginla this season. - MJL
Yeah so this doesn't help.
The upper limit of what?
So bonus money earned is added to the next year's cap hit? So next year, providing he earns 2mil in bonuses next season, the flyers must tack on an extra 2 million to their team salary in 15-16? |

We don't know for sure. But I think it's a safe bet that they are easily obtained bonuses. Probably for games played. Now a significant injury could keep a games played bonus from being met. If the bonuses are not met, they are not paid out, and won't be charged to the Flyers cap.

The Salary cap Upper Limit. It's added to next year's Cap if they can't fit it in under the upcoming seasons cap. If the bonuses are earned.

The only thing we know as far as the bonuses and a potential overage is that it will be anywhere from 0 to 2M.

The cushion allows you to transfer whatever bonus amount exceeds the cap limit to the next year. Say the flyers have $500,000 in remaining cap space at the end of the season and Kimmo earns the full $2mil in bonuses. The $1.5mil that exceeds the cap ceiling this year can be rolled over to the count against the cap next year instead. |
