No. Eklblad would likely be off the board by then anyway. - PhillySportsGuy

I'd say John Carlson is better. Florida has Brian Campbell, and Columbus has James Wiesneiuwseuiske, which are debatable I guess. - jmatchett383
Winnipeg has several scoring dmen as well. Not sure how good guys like Byfuglien and Enstrom really are overall. |

I'd argue that Trouba is already better, possibly Bogo as well. |

So saying he's a push with those players, he's better than dmen on 3 of the NHL's bottom feeders. Not nearly good enough. - PLindbergh31
I think it says more about those teams being devoid of talent on D than it does about Coburn as a player. |

Still no. Without Coburn, our D is the worst in hockey. Only Edmonton's could rival it. |

Even if he is still there at 3 then you have created a hole in our D. A fairly large one Ekblad won't be able to fill immediately. So you'd have to make some other trades for D or just be prepared to tank next season. |

Exactly. Ekblad is a good player in a very weak draft. Despite his OHL exceptional status, he's not of the pedigree of a guy like Seth Jones was last year. He's more of an Erik Johnson type, at least going into the draft. |

Caps fans hate on Carlson almost as much as our fans hate on Coburn.
Columbus has Ryan Murray... it won't be long before he's deemed 'better' than Coburn.
Brian Campbell, for as much as he's paid, is actually one of the most underrated #1 dmen in the league... guys is pretty snazzy. |

I watched a few Oiler games and they are REALLY bad. They have the worst habits. Their defense is horrible and their forwards offer NO help whatsoever.
Buffalo was bad, but they just simply lacked the offensive talent to score goals. The Oilers' problems run much deeper than just not having enough talent. |

It's one of those things where you're so intrigued that the creepiness doesn't faze you until it's all over. It's like watching that dude who drove his car naked, crashed it into a telephone pole, and got out and went to town with himself in broad daylight. There's no way I didn't wanna watch that. |

Plus there is no guarantee Ekblad will even be as good as Coburn when it all shakes out. Add to that, if he became as good as Coburn now, it would be an excellent pick. Funny how that works out. So why not just keep Coburn?

I have no issue with Coburn. His contract is fair and his play is fairly strong. He's, without question, a top 4 dman in the NHL. I think he's capable of being the shutdown guy on a top pair. The problem lies with the defense around him. It's not his fault the team is made up of 2nd and 3rd pairing dmen and he's forced out of position.
I remember his poor pass to Hal Gill which resulted in a Ranger goal. Everyone killed him for giving a bad pass.
In reality, 95% of dmen just kick that puck up to their skates.
I think Coburn is similar to Dan Girardi. Girardi is a little better offensively and Coburn is a better skater. If Girardi makes that pass to McDonagh, we wouldn't even notice it was a bad pass. - PhillySportsGuy
I think this is pretty much spot on.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the point was. If he's saying that Coburn's a bad #1 defenseman, then yes. But the thing is, he's not a #1 defenseman. |

I'm curious who has the greater value in your mind C-Nazim Kadri or C-Brayden Schenn?
AND
the same question for D-Luke Schenn and D-Dion Phaneuf. Remember Phaneuf has a 7 year, 7 million contract kicking in this year. - ManCity
I perfer Brayden Schenn to Nazim Kadri. I actually like both young players but I like Schenn's upside more. I think Schenn prides himself getting better and improving his game in all three zones. Kadri strikes me as only offsense all the time. I don't like Schenn's defensive game but I do see potential.
I perfer Dion Phaneuf to Luke Schenn. Phaneuf is overrated and has flaws but he's more capable then Luke. |

Exactly. Like I said, he's the best in a weak draft class. He's not a can't-miss guy like Jones was. |
