Yeah, it's just one thing to consider... the Kings drafted by that same philosophy, but they still took Doughty over a number of guys that were close with more projectable frames (Petro, Schenn, Bogo) -- pretty sure they aren't regretting that decision.

Taking hulking Teubert over Karlsson later that same round... that one deserves a do-over.

Without going back and doing math, I think that prospect scouting has become a better (yet still inexact) science than it was in the past. Whether it's due to the internet, better use of statistics, more scouts in different locations, etc. there seem to be fewer (in general) busts. I don't think you'll ever see another Alexander Daigle or Patrcik Stefan unless there's a wide-open, weak draft.

Think the big difference now is that draft hopefuls are so much further along than just a decade or so ago. More advanced fitness (unless it comes to pull-ups, lol) more attention to D from coaches at all levels, and their agents are always in their ear now. See a lot more of the kids who aren't as driven fall in the draft... like Nick Ebert, who went from projected lottery pick to Mr. irrelevant.

Think the big difference now is that draft hopefuls are so much further along than just a decade or so ago. More advanced fitness (unless it comes to pull-ups, lol) more attention to D from coaches at all levels, and their agents are always in their ear now. I was down the shore in Sea Isle watching that game.

It was awful to watch how that game ended after the exciting Game 4 win and taking the two games in NJ after NJ took the first two games at the Spectrum. I really remember feeling like, "this is where we pull past the Devils" after Game 4.

so was i. it was the first and last playoff game i ever saw in the spectrum (and was with my brother). i had the pleasure of attending game 4 in nj and witnessed the flyers chase brodeur and tie the series. i was still living in vermont at the time, and drove down for the pair of games. needless to say, the road rage i had was off the charts on the way back. how i didn't get into an accident or get a single if not multiple speeding tickets is beyond me.

anyway...the thing about that goal that pisses me off is the fact that lemieux interfered with lindros in the left circle faceoff in the devils' end just before the goal. lindros ended up on the ice, lemieux got away from him, skated to the right wing, took the pass, went straight down the ice and scored. i still believe the puck was tipped by dykhuis (or haller...i forget who was covering).

that last minute garbage goal by that piece of poop, along with the elias goal in game 7 5 years later, are why i will always hate that (frank)ing team. (frank) them and their (frank)ing fans. jesus, i hate them.

I would have to take the time to think of the names that I hate directly related to the Flyers but as far as a players in general go.

Max Lapeirre...completely unwillingness to drop the gloves when causing huge problems.

Chris Neil...the tough guy who doesn't fight tough guys.

Matt Cooke..dirty

James Neal...head hunter

Colby Armstrong...head hunter and not tough enough to back up his style of play.

I did some digging, and Honka means 'old pine' in finnish, so that probably means that its west finnish due to their tradition of taking the surname based on a landmark close to where you lived. Btw Finns can also have Swedish surnames or surnames based on the patriarchs name (Timonen probably means 'of Timo'). Of course, nowadays the surnames are passed on just like in most western countries.
