Plek is one of the best 2nd line center in the league, and he's paid like one at 5M.
Phaneuf is paid like a #1 dman, but cannot play defence!! He's a decent 3-4, but not a first pairing dman IMO. Not on a winning team that is...

he can be first pairing in the right situation. but Toronto asks him to play a Shea Weber/Drew Doughty role. that's not who he is. he's almost like a Jay Bouwmeester. different skill sets yes, but Bouwmeester was ill-suited to anchoring a defence. i don't think anyone will say he's not a first pairing guy though.

I'm still waiting for an offer for the 4th pick and Giordano that would NOT include Phaneuf and Reimer.

look they're not very bright people. look at stormey. and he's one of the smarter ones.

de la Rose seems like Montreal's only real solid forward prospect, in terms of a guy with size who has potential to play a top 6 role. our forward cupboard is barren, especially after dealing Collberg.

Phaneuf cannot play defence. He's good offensively, but need a good stay at home dman with him. The complete opposite of JayBo IMO.
Would he be 1st pairing in CHI, LA, NYR, BOS, STL, VAN, PHO, ANA, hell even MTL!
Sure in TOR or Florida he could, but that's why they never make the PO!

I could see him replacing Gionta

I actually think he could be a good complementary player on the 2nd line, won't drive offense all by himself but will create room for his linemates and work along the boards.

They probably enter the field with "Here comes the BOOM!" playing in the background to scare off their opponents.
