also thinking $$$ wise. team needs to maintain flexibility. the one thing i don't want to see as a fan is MB spend to the cap just to keep this team together. as currently constructed, they're good but not good enough, so i don't see the point.

Markov will be better over the next 3 years than any of the prized 3-4 D rookies that you guys have.

He's a top 2 guy still. If you lose him....the Leafs and Jets will bury you.

ENJOY 10TH PLACE!!!

Markov brings alot yes, but he also has evident flaws that you can solve with someone out there.

over the next 3 years? no, sorry, i disagree with that. at least, i disagree that it's a given that a 37 year old Markov will be better than Beaulieu in 2-3 years. i'm not saying Markov isn't still a top-4 defender. and i'm not saying that losing him wouldn't hurt or be a step back. i'm saying that sometimes it's OK to walk away from a good but old player and transition to your younger guys.

you're more than happy to point out those flaws during the fall and winter months. it's strange how your opinion has taken a turn in the offseason. shocking!!!

And i think Emelin suffers from Markov's defensive game.

I don't think it is.

In fact, Markov only becam a 2nd D playing with Norris winner Subban. On other occasions, he definately became a mediocre defensive defensman.

i think Emelin suffers from being slow and dumb. he's OK but not sure he's a top 4 guy. we'll see more next year. hard to judge a guy too harshly coming off a major injury like that. but that's a big contract he has...

Yes, that contract was a bit of a head scratcher.

Also, as much as I'd like to see Markov retained, if he walks it wouldn't be the end of the world.
