Is it your money?

Unless...Oh. You must be Geoff Molson. Sorry sir, we had no idea that we were talking about your ACTUAL money.

- 3M

Perhaps he was just talking about cap space that could be used by his favorite team elsewhere.

just a thought.

Why not? Who's making up for his scoring?
- hscesq

I agree that his playoffs tenure is a major turnoff.

But I don't get the "you could get a guy who'd cost 1/2 his salary ang give you 2/3 of his production" argument. I mean, where do you get the 1/3 afterwards?

Where? And when it's used elsewhere, I ask again - who makes up for the lost goals?

yeah i really don't understand why they're so adamant about bringing this guy back.
- Gary_B.

1) leadership off ice more than on

2) will take less money and different role in the bottom 6

2) continuity of habs captaincy

3) no other captain material on this team at this time

I would have to question your description of him as inconsistent. His career numbers are pretty consistent. Now, if you want to make him into that guy who chases pucks into corners and hustles back on every play, and is the rah-rah team guy, then you'll be disappointed for sure. If you just want 30ish goals per season, then he's someone your team would need.

Let's take the Kings as an example...
Do they have a lot of soft Vanek type players?

(and no, don't answer Gaborik. he proved he can perform in the playoffs)

Oh....I wasn't saying I agree with him.

Just that he was thinking of cap space for his favorite team....I don't really think he is Geoff Molson.

It's about planning ahead. If the Habs handcuff themselves with Vanek, they could have cap problems in the future. Subban is still unsigned, they need to find him a suitable defense partner as well.

After next season, both Galchenyuk and Gallagher are up for new contracts.

I'm no capologist, but I believe a good GM is one that plans years ahead.

Anyway, any discussion on this topic is pretty moot. Vanek is not staying here.

I'm tired of watching this team always go after the same type of player.

It leads nowhere.

They don't have a lot of them, no. But the Habs are nowhere near the Kings in many different facets. Their game is not the same type of game. Carter was that type. So was Gaborik. Never know what can happen. But the point I am making is still the same. Show me how the production is replaced, and I am ok with him not returning.

Vanek wasn't there for 3/4 of the season and the habs were in a playoff position.

He also didn't produce in the playoffs. Not sure what will be missed exactly.

the point isn't that Gaborik is soft, it's that he had that reputation in NY and Columbus and even Minnesota. and Carter didn't exactly have the best rep in Philly and Columbus. amazing though how both players go to LA and all of a sudden everything is different.

now i know that it has nothing to do with being surrounded by other good players. i know it's something intangible that just clicked for both players. they decided to become clutch players. because that's how it works.
