Why would another team trade you a good third liner with would gets the job done and is cheaper than Gionta?

You are gonna get a guy who's not really playing up to expectations, a Travis Moen of sorts.

Unless Bergevin can pull another Diaz for Weise.

- Fredobbface

are you seriously suggesting that no team ever trades effective third-line players? teams trade them all the time, and it's usually a question of cap space or internal budgets.
i never said a player who makes less than Gionta. the player can make as much or even more. it's not about the $$ on Montreal's end that concerns me. i just think it's time to get a bit bigger up front, and this is one way to do it.

If they really want another midget they could sign PM Bouchard for cheap or give a shot to Andrighetto instead of Gionta...

Doubtful.

I don't really know who's available but it's always risky to hope the FA market will fill your voids.
- Fredobbface

I don't even think we need to add a regular in the bottom 6...

Prust, Weise, Bournival...either of those 3 can make the 3rd line. Then you have Moen and White who can fill in on the 4th.

I think we need to stop worrying about filling out the bottom 6 and start worrying about upgrading on the top 6.

So that's 5 guys for the bottom 6. They call in bottom 6 because they are usally 6 players.

I didn't list the other guys, such as Eller or Plekanec, which ever will center the 3rd line...etc...

I was listing our 4th liners and mentioning that one of them can easily replace Gionta on he 3rd line...

Nothing like the Canadian anthem to fire up a guy from Slovaquia.

no see that's the problem right there. those are great 8-9 minute 4th line players. but once you rely on those guys to be a third line and then start talking about Ryan White and Travis Moen, you're talking about a pretty crappy bottom 6, and lousy depth overall.

the need to acquire a first line winger is a given.

my thinking too. i see Weise as a fill in guy on the third line but he should not be counted on for anything more than a 4th line/PK role. Prust is much more effective in the fourth line role too.

i don't find them all that bothersome. the only thing that bugs me is that we have to hear two of them. just play one. game's in Canada? Canadian anthem. in the US? American.

We have yet to see if he can play like that over 82 games.

There has to be reason he was in Vigneault and Tortorella's doghouse.

White and Moen, would fill the vacated spot on the 4th line...not the 3rd...

We have enough bottom 6 contributors...we need to package other pieces to upgrade the top 6... Maybe even package Eller and Plekanec for a winger. (Because Galchenyuk and DD should be our top 2 Centers).
