I won't lie and say that I personally had Barkov at #2, but I will say that I thought it was possible a team could have him that high. He was a 17 year old putting up ridiculous numbers in the Finnish league playing against men.

I dont think a lot of people had the Sabres going D-D last year, but after the 2012 draft 1st round, and considering our depth prior to the draft, I know I posted that Risto would be our 1st pick because of him being better than any forward available, and that we could go D with the 2nd even though I wouldve liked a goal scoring winger like Rychel. I also specifically remember calling pre draft top 10 favorite Hunter Shinkaruk's meteoric fall to the 20's.

Was listening to a radio show that Ray Fararo was on. He was talking about Ekblad and said he sees him as a 2nd pairing D. His point was the reason he looks so good now is because he is a man amongst boys but when he comes up to the NHL that will level off. Not saying he isn't good but thinks that he is more of a 2nd tier Dman. Thought it was an interesting point!

Which is entirely possible. The only thing he does at an elite level is shoot. Other than that he's just bigger and stronger than his competition right now

That's been the knock on him for a while now, has he already peaked or will he soon? I really like him but it's one of my main concerns as well.

I feel like he may need to spend even more than 1 year back in juniors just working on his overall game. Physically he seems to have it but can the talent match it and excel at the NHL level?
