This makes sense if the Pens hold onto MAF.

Martin Brodeur is a bad option for all 30 NHL teams, backup role or not. He is no better than your average AHL callup at this point.

He needs to just retire and keep the little dignity he has left in check....

Of course it's still about money he pays 132 k in support and 500k a year until 2020 as well as losing 9 mil in assets in his divorce. Yes he's made a lot but lost almost half in 09 and has a huge nut every year for the next 6 years.

Brodeur could stabilise the goalie quandry and help Pens win the Cup.

Could be, if it works out this way and Brodeur can still be somewhat productive in net.

However, the Hawks have tried something like this a couple of times with aging goaltenders in the last few seasons (Turco and Khabibulin) with disastrous results.

This. Have people even been watching this guy? He's looked awful for 3 years. If his name wasn't Brodeur he would have been outright released long ago.

Marty...just stop.

He brought the Devils to the finals in the past 3 years. With a worse team than Fleury has had in front of him.

Really? MAF is 29 years old, if he needs coaching at this point why is he even a starting goalie?

If Im MAF I'd be pissed at this move.

I'd like to see a graph like this for Marty's entire career comparing him to the league average. Still probably won't be very impressive.

I'd love to have him in Tampa to backup Ben Bishop. Gudlevskis and Vasilevskiy need a year or two in the AHL before they come up to the big show, and Lindback was an unmitigated disaster. Having that kind of veteran puck-stopper could be great for the Bolts... but if he wants to win now, I'm not sure if Tampa would be a good destination.

I'm not doubting our talent (with the addition of another Top 4 D), just questioning if we're ready to make a next step or a giant leap. The Bolts being the Bolts, your guess is as good as mine...

It's one thing tobring in a proven guy like they did with Vokoun to be an option. It's another to bring in arguably the best goalie in history, even if he's well past his prime. Every time MAF let in anything close to a weak goal, he'd be looking over his shoulder. I don't see how this stabilizes the position. MAF was not the reason the Pens lost last year and I frankly don care whether 87 supposedly likes the idea or not. maybe he should look in the mirror a bit, because if he pots a few goals in tne Rangers seeies, they probably would be i the finals now. As for MAF, the Pens need to decide if they can win with him or not, and move on from there. I've been dreading this offseason more than most, as nonsensical rumors like this will get even more legs than usual now that they have a new GM.

I think he has a little bit more in the tank than people think. I haven't really seen a whole lot of Zatkoff to form an opinion on to know if he is a legit backup in the league or not. I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea have 2 cup winning goalies to go forward with come next post season.

But the key point through out the whole blog was the last sentence about Crosby loving it.
