Per Dreger, Flyers looking at Ryan Kesler, because apparently 6 (frank)ing centers isn't enough

EDIT: Whoops, Philly is on Kesler's "OK, I will accept trade there" list, not that the Flyers are into him...WHEW!

He's interested so we're now interested.

If they trade Vinny & Brayden Schenn for defense help, I'd have interest. But right now, without making a move, you have at least one center paying wing, if not two and likely a rookie former 1st round pick as the 4th line C.

Florida has at least one solid offer for top pick & Brodeur is "mentally ready" to go elsewhere.

If they could swing a swap like that I would be ok with it, except you still have to give up something for Kesler as well. I'm assuming they want want a deal centered around Laughton.

i bet his bank account is ready, too. oh, what a struggle it must be, to find a way to mentally prepare yourself to continue a career of playing hockey at 41-2 years old. we're the same age, and i've never been paid a penny, yet somehow i find it within myself to play at every opportunity.

Only way I see it working is a three team deal where team x takes Vinny and trades whatever in return to Vancouver and we get Kesler.

I'm just the messenger. When he signs with a new team, you can ask Fatso how he feels

Possible. Or if they move Schenn + for a defenseman + and Vinny for a 3rd line winger and it frees up a deal for others on the roster or system.

btw, not that this realistic, but if he'd sign for 1-1.5 with the flyers, would you want him?

Hexy has to have a strong opinion of Schenn with all the years he's been around him. I'm starting to wonder if he's more open to getting rid of Hartnell. To move, Vinny is probably going to have them eating money. It is not ideal, but Vinny on the 4th line was relatively effective. He may have been even more effective with replacing Rinaldo and Hall with a little more skill.

Hartnell, on the other hand, Hexy could probably be able to move and not eat money.

No. His lateral movement is no better than Emery, and I have doubts that he'll accept back up job with grace.

Possible. Hextall was the guy running the room when Schenn was drafted. I'd be more open to dealing Hartnell, too.

If it were me, and there was no deal to dump Vinny, I'd try him as RW on Giroux's line first and move Voracek to 2nd line

I believe there would be a decent market for Hartnell. I could see SJ or Chicago having interest depending on how those teams want to retool. If Hartnell's contract was one less year, it would actually be more favorable. With that being written, he has been durable, and he will be in a team's top 6 for a bunch of years.

Simmonds is entrenched in front of the net, I could see B. Schenn in Hartnell's role on the first PP. Moving Hartnell out, then guys like Jokinen or Pouliout who might not be quite as gritty, but offer a little more diverse game can more easily slide into the top 6.

Or a trade involving Sharp and Hartnell with other pieces involved. I know a pipe dream.

It was a curious hire. It still makes me wonder if the original candidate they wanted to hire, went to another team. The Rutherford hire reeks of retread back-up plan.

he's better than emery laterally, imho, but he doesn't play the butterfly slide style so it may appear like emery is quicker. he's not going to be a starter, likely, anywhere. i think he needs to "mentally prepare" for being a backup. no shame in that, at his age.
