Travis Sanheim from 32 to 8. Based of previous rank to current he should provide some reasoning because from looking at that I would think this draft would be hard to mock other then the top 5 - J35Bacher
Roland McKeown at 51. He's really dropped. |

Can't draft a guy named Roland. Too British sounding. |

#17 straight up for #1, draft Ekblad..
Problem solved, no guesswork required for the Flyers. - jmatchett383

Once you get past Fleury, it becomes a guessing game of who likes who. - PhillySportsGuy
Really does.
Bill can you explain why buttons ranking seem to be all over the charts compared to what others have. |

I see he has Brandon Lemiux at 33 all the way up from 51. Thatcher Demko at 53. Wish there was a place to see why he has ranks where they are - J35Bacher
Listen to his podcasts for TSN. They are very informative and candid. In a nutshell, his rankings are done throughout the season by the same methodology he'd use if he were preparing an NHL team for the draft. It is NOT a mock draft. Rather, he ranks based upon where he evaluates the player will be among his draft year peers in three to five years time. He goes by his own evaluations not Central Scouting, ISS or any pundits.
Last year, Button was touting Samuel Morin ahead of everyone else. As the draft approached, he added that he'd heard Philly was high on him.

Glennie will not be an NHL player, in all likelihood. This is a big year coming up for Jamie Oleksiak... he looked totally over his head during his brief stints in the NHL and there is only so much to gain for him in the AHL. - bmeltzer
Yeah, it looks like if Glennie's going to make it, it's going to have to be as a bottom-six speedster, like a Jason Chimera or Jack Skille. He'd have to do a 180 on his play style, though.
Oleksiak... huge, rangy, fast for his size, mean as all heck.... where have I heard that before? |

I understand they aren't a mock draft but then looking at those rankings mocks should be different shouldn't they? |

Also, Button disagreed with those who say this isn't a "deep" draft. He said that there may not be many pre-draft guys whom one would peg as superstars but he thinks there will be dozens of future NHL regulars and many very solid NHL players. He said he has puzzled over a top 30 and a top 100 because there are others who fell outside that he likes this year.

Yes. A good example from last year was Rasmus Ristolainen. Button said all along the player would be drafted much higher than where he ranked him, but that was his own evaluation.

I'll have to take a listen. That was interesting on Virtanen because I like him but Button has him at 45. Also what is you insight on the Matt Hatch signing? Just a player for the AHL? Any NHL qualities? |

Unlikely to play in the NHL but he is a good Terry Murray-style role player for the Phantoms. He could help on PK and provides reliable hustle.

Do you think with the Phantom being closer to Philly you mght see a better team? I think with being clser subcociously you feel closer to nhl and ratchett up the effort better. |

reading more about the combine:
"Monahan's peak power output on the Wingate Ergometer test measured 12.6 watts per kilogram of body weight, which was 3.2 short of last year's leader Rimouski Oceanic defenseman Samuel Morin, who went on to be the 11th pick of the 2013 draft by the Philadelphia Flyers."
Edit: Lasted 14 minutes on that bike(tied for 3rd with a few others).... |

As far as 8th overall picks go, he's no Coburn or Couturier. |
