Why? Did Shanny earn his position? Or Trevor Linden? Or countless others? - Iggysbff
At least Shannahan worked for the league in recent years. Mcguire has been out of the league 20 years. I don't care that he has been announcing |

Is the Pens ownership deliberately trying to alienate the fan base? Possibly hiring this assclown who is a legend in his own mind with no relevant experience in the last 20 years. AND, not firing a coach who led the team to some of the most disappointing post seasons in memory. Ridiculous! - madmike71
Ooooo ooooo ooo, bandwagon fan alert
I can't believe it's a possibility that Pierre is with the organization. The only way I'd take him is if Bowman comes as well. This team currently constructed ain't gonna work and is flat embarrassing to be a fan of when the antics start, which is any time they face adversity. And now, with Bylsma left in limbo and a players agent and Pierre being considered to run this team.... |

Agreed.
I hope in 10 years from now we don't look back and say "With all that talent Crosby, Malkin, Letang all we got was 1 cup" |

Not that I think he's mr. arrogant anymore... don't all people out-grow that? If he wants a GM job, he should go through the system of being a "head scout" then an "assistant GM" so that he knows the office and the environment, and his limited experience in these roles would lead me to think that yes, he does have an eye for talent, but he's also liable to make a really stupid trade.
Like Hodgson to Buffalo kind of stupid. Simply because he's too excitable.
That's why he's on tv between the benches... not in the suites. |

I have no problem keeping. Botteril as long as he fires Bylsma.. but that is the only thing that concerns me. I would like the pens to have a GM in place by weds and a new coaching staff by friday to give them a good 2 weeks of meetings on who stays and who goes and what kids to pick in draft.... |

You know who'd be the perfect GM for the Penguins? Ray Shero... AFTER they got rid of MA Fleury. |

If you were to watch the Pens, MAF wasn't the problem. He was far from it.

He said in an interview on XM shortly after She to was fired that he would never take the Penguins GM job. Apparently he and Shero are best friends that goes back 20+ years and both were in each other's wedding parties.
In the interview he admitted he and Mario were close but would never want the job. He aluded to the fact that he was not a fan of Penguins' ownership decisions and that by taking the job he would be betraying his friend. - Routs
He was so adamant about it too, like him not taking the job was some valiant sacrifice for his frienship. What an egotistical jackass... |

This sentiment just about sums up one of the problems I have with many of the people on this board. Cups are nice, sure. But its a terrible attitude to think that cups are the only thing a fan can look back on. The way someone should look back on this team is "Hey we only won one cup but damn was it nice to be able to watch all that talent season after season, man are the pens fans lucky" |

A reasonable Penguin to do list. But first we need a GM, right?
http://triblive.com/sport...coach-orpik#axzz33CfypgWp - powerhouse
I really like Niskanen, but i truly fail to see how signing him to a 5 or 6 yr contract for $5.5M/yr makes the Penguins a better team. Niskanen is a good player, but more of a 3/4 Dman who works well on the PP.
If the Penguins are truly serious about re-signing Niskanen to a $5.5M/yr, long - term contract, they would be better served in moving 33 yr old Paul Martin for a gritty W plus pick/prospect. He was our best Dman last year, but injured. Get something for him now and let the kids play.
Letang - Despres
Maatta - Niskanen
Dumoulin - Veteran UFA 5/6-Dman

I've never understood this line of thinking. If the quality of play, facilities, ownership, management, and direction suck, why would anyone spend their money on it? Just so you can say "I'm the best fan"???? Senseless. Would you continue eating at your favorite restaurant if it suddenly started making you sick? - Topshelf Mountain
I continue to watch the Isles. Even when Mike Comrie was our best player |

You can look at it any way you want. I choose to look at it as wasted opportunities. Looking back at the Mario era all the talent and how many playoff failures. What comes to mind? The 7 game loss to the Islanders? Bitter pill to swallow. Sorry
