So you're saying we should trade down to #22?

I can't fathom how football fans know the draft really well. I'm not saying you're lying at all, just that it seems like a HUGE undertaking. When people are like:

"Yeah, there's this 6'2 receiver who played for some no-name school and had 42 catches and 6 TD's, he'd be a great pick in the 4th round."

"There's a defensive end who played backup for USC but had a great high school record and filled in well for 3 games, he'd be a great fit for our right side."

It's not an argument over whether they're right or wrong, but the fact that they can follow 150 schools, know every player's strengths and weaknesses, and project what round they're likely to go in. Just crazy.

- jmatchett383

I'm not Mike Mayock. I can't tell you the strengths and weaknesses of a left tackle from Saginaw Valley.

These draft 'gurus' are given about 400 players to watch tape on. 256 get drafted. They don't watch every snap of every player. The higher the pick, the more tape they watch. They will also watch more tape on all quarterbacks.

Mayock admits to only watching highlights of certain late round players. When those guys are picked, he just refers back to his notes.

They will also contact previous coaches to get information as well.

Many of these guys have several people working with them to help out. I know Mayock calls Thursday Night Football and Notre Dame games, so he doesn't have the free time all season to watch film all season.

I just hope Hextall gets to follow thru on his plans...not sure the "impatience" shown in past years came from GMs chair
- Jsaquella

i firmly believe he will and that organization will turn a cultural corner with said patience. hextall is respected, has earned this opportunity, and has the benefit of having helped build a cup winner that gives him all the license he needs to do things his way.

I think he needs to go back for an overage season. I think he'd be hard pressed at the AHL level at this point. He might be able to handle it and who knows, he could excel but I doubt it. He'll be in good shape on the depth chart in Kelowna and could earn his ELC there.

It's 50/50. I just think the AHL is more of a risk for him.

- mayorofangrytown

Dunno, he was technically already 'overage' for most of this season, being an early-bday and all, and still managed meager numbers. If he goes back and only improves by 10-20 points as a 21-yo beating up on teens, he might not even have the AHL to look forward to.

His type of game seems like it needs to be proven/honed against adults.

Back before fatherhood and jobs and responsibilities, it wasn't terribly difficult to follow the NFL draft because, for me, it felt like a natural extension of watching a billion college football games every Saturday.

Now, I'm lucky if I have time to watch A SINGLE college football game, let alone the multiple games I used to watch.

So with this being a little bit of a weaker draft compared to next year would you drop down to say 22 if a team really wanted someone and take thier 22 and get a first next year? Would you drop to say 2nd round if your getting a 1st rounder next year?

Why is 22 always the magic "drop down to" number?

Why can't it be 23? Or 21?

Or a nice round number like 25?

Interesting fact that I just came along that is no where near related to this topic but Ill share. Leighton was actually one of the best goalies in the KHL this year. He had .933SV% in 42 games. Although KHL stats dont mean much its nice that he is doing well for himself.

I have a pair of in ear (that's all I wear) skullcandy titans that sound just as good as Beats but are $100 cheaper.

My theories are too much bass is, indeed, a bad thing and ruins both the music and your earbuds/headphones (yes I put bass reducer on) and anything over $60 sounds the same

I'm about to be married, but have no kids. My dad said he had to give up college football when he had me and my sister. He chose NFL football instead.

I love Saturdays in the fall. There is nothing better than when College Football, NHL hockey and playoff baseball are all on. If you're a pro with the remote, you will never sit through a commercial.

Me either. I believe Beats also has streaming audio. I'm sure Apple knows what they are doing. I would think 3 billion buys all the people employed by Beats, so they are getting a lot of smart engineers who can develop other products.

I have great hair. I snapchat my hair to my friends in the morning. Particularly, the friends who are losing their hair or going grey.

Edit: Mel Kiper is horrible and annoying. Mayock poops on him.

Please no more Mike Ratchuk type picks as well

2nd round 2006 pick was a fail after several years in the AHL and most recently toiling for the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.

By the way has anyone else seen Wheeling this year
The coach or assistant was doing the best imitation of Chris Farley as the inspirational speaker who lives in a van down by the river.

Stuffed into a too tight suit with eyes bulging and crazy, shirt collar open tie askew

But he didnt even know he was doing it all year.............

Never heard Mayock do draft analysis. He can't possibly be as bad as that at he is doing the color on the NFL Network and Notre Dame games. He's awful.

I don't think deep. There are probably 5 guys that are top 5 and then seems to be a crap shoot to where players might end up. Plus you have Virtenan wo injured his shoulder so he might drop. Some guys had good u18 tournaments like Sonny Milano so maybe he moves up. I think 6 and up could go a variaty of ways.
- J35Bacher

sonny milano is in the mob.
