Is this a deep draft?

Is there a possibility if the Flyers indeed remain at # 17 that there could be a player available who isn't 3+ years away from contributing at the NHL level?

- PLindbergh31

It's not terribly deep... think it'll look a little like 2006 when all is said and done... some fantastic players sprinkled in here and there, but mostly guys who need a lot of time, and a fair share of guys who will be DOA.

I'd call Snow and offer him the next 18 7th round picks for the Islander 1st this year and see if he bites on it

Current draft point values only, LOL.

I guess Goulbourne's agent is doing the right thing by his client, but he's got to know his client's only negotiating plank is that the Flyers thought he was good enough to be taken in the 3rd round.

37 points in 68 games ain't getting it done for an ELC.

- johndewar

Will look forward to watching him with the phantoms. I guess these agents will be trying to call the flyers bluff all summer. We'll see what direction they really take instead of what they tell us very soon

Doesn't sound great.... Is there anything to look forward to on July 1? I guess I should be happy that there won't be any enforcers or 35+ year old dmen signed.

It's a start!

I don't think deep. There are probably 5 guys that are top 5 and then seems to be a crap shoot to where players might end up. Plus you have Virtenan wo injured his shoulder so he might drop. Some guys had good u18 tournaments like Sonny Milano so maybe he moves up. I think 6 and up could go a variaty of ways.

You might like this one that would talk just short of 100 7th rounders to get the top pick.

June st could be a date to look at. If Hextall eally want to geyoung and have prospects that is the day some unsigned players become UFAs like Tomas Hyka,Lukkas Sutter, Karlsson, Vail

OB is going to be so excited when he comes in and sees were talking about the draft.
- PhillySportsGuy

Yeah, he loves to watch the prospects and do that research. He was heavily into the NFL draft for a decade. I tend to watch Flyers prospects in the CHL. If I happen across a prospect on their team or one their team is playing I pay attention. He digs in and watches the draft eligible kids.

I'm going back and watching games right now of kids who could go around our pick. I watched Fabbri a couple times during the season and at the memorial cup. I don't need to see anymore of him. I love Dal Colle but that's never happening. If he doesn't go by the 5th pick I'd be shocked.

Dreisteitel or whatever the crap his name is (the only good German) has likely skyrocketed due to his WJC and WC.

It's a fair draft. There's some better talent that likely would be knocked down a few spots in a stronger draft year, some middle-of-the-road guys, and then a lot of question marks.

Of course, in 4 years, we could all be talking about the strength of the draft, so....

Good luck even getting an AHL ATO with those kinds of numbers... he'd be pretty dumb not to sign the AHL SPC.
- Tomahawk

I think he needs to go back for an overage season. I think he'd be hard pressed at the AHL level at this point. He might be able to handle it and who knows, he could excel but I doubt it. He'll be in good shape on the depth chart in Kelowna and could earn his ELC there.

It's 50/50. I just think the AHL is more of a risk for him.

The real question is, could he beat Derek Mathers in a fight?

I don't pay REALLY close attention to the draft, but I usually know the first rounders in the NBA, NHL and NFL draft. I follow college football pretty closely, so I usually know all skilled position players throughout the first 5 rounds.

You really don't like Fabbri.

One would think chilling in a hotel room with one of the Olsen twins is about as good a plan as a guy could have. Didn't seem to work out.

He fights because he's about the only player on the team that can. No to be controversial but I'd bet 30% of his fights are race related. I've seen a couple times guys drop gloves with him out of nowhere.

I can't fathom how football fans know the draft really well. I'm not saying you're lying at all, just that it seems like a HUGE undertaking. When people are like:

"Yeah, there's this 6'2 receiver who played for some no-name school and had 42 catches and 6 TD's, he'd be a great pick in the 4th round."

"There's a defensive end who played backup for USC but had a great high school record and filled in well for 3 games, he'd be a great fit for our right side."

It's not an argument over whether they're right or wrong, but the fact that they can follow 150 schools, know every player's strengths and weaknesses, and project what round they're likely to go in. Just crazy.

I'm with you. I do research on guys that could go to the Flyers in the 1st and 2nd, and read closely what Bill has to say about guys in the middle of June or so.

Other than that, I just let OB and co. do all the work, and I just read it
