Nick Ritchie but probably not dropping to 17.
Sonny Milano
Maybe Roland Mckeown
Anthony d'angelo

Not sure because I think guys could drop and some teams might reach early.

- J35Bacher

Yeah I got you. I'm just trying to read up on some guys that'd be good picks who could still be on the board at 17

OB is going to be so excited when he comes in and sees were talking about the draft.

Having the Bowman family on the payroll certainly doesn't hurt... hopefully Hexy's hiring represents a sea change in the way this club is managed/operated...
- Tomahawk

I would love to see a change. In my entire life there hasn't been much change in philosophy, even though the league itself has changed more times than I can count.

Bennett can play wing. But if your moving schenn then you have an opening. Also if you can say ship Vinny to Nashville for some picks you could open up more cap space.

You're assuming that 1) WIP will not be talking about the eagles long enough to discuss hockey, and 2) whatever they think is based off solid facts and knowledge of the draft pool.

They could draft Ekbald and I'm sure someone there would think its a horrible move because they need the big center or a guy who can stand in front of the net like Tim Kerr blah blah blah 1970s.

- the deaninator

Yeah, I don't see WIP having strong feelings about it. I expect somebody to call in and blast their pick, to have the host respond, "Wait, pick? There's a hockey draft?"

Aim high, and you might just hit the sky.

Another one of the many words of wisdom my father has passed on to myself.

Here is the big problem with the Flyers rationale on the TG pick.

1- The fact that they said they were taking a guy who has a 50-50 shot at being a 4th line player, over a guy with a 10-15% chance at being a real contributor speaks volumes. 50-50.. those are good odds... but not for a 4th liner.

Here is a scenario:

Its the third round. Your pick is up.

On the board you have 7 different types of guys available. This is the order in which I think it should go IF you are taking a gamble.

1-One time highly regarded player who keeps falling.
2-raw d-man but skilled o-dman
3-undersized skilled forward
4-intriguing productive European prospect, but not a ton of info
5-3rd-4th line defensive forward
6-bigger slower d-man
7-Fighter/ limited skilled agitator

Never take a fighter in the 3rd round. EVER

So, for all of the kvetching about Berube and Hextall being ex-Flyers and them not knowing anything or not being from the mythical, all-knowing "outside", can we agree that everything both Berube and Hextall have said does indicate a bit of a sea change and these two guys aren't the "same old, same old"?
- johndewar

They've both said all the things I want to hear this summer (especially w/ regards to possession, analytics, development and patience)... it certainly feels like something new is happening here.

If trading back/out would get them another top-45 pick in next year's draft, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Fans would probably set the WFC on fire, but who cares.

Not an exact science, but this is a pretty cool statistical analysis of NHL draft picks over a 10 year period. They attempt to create an NHL draft point chart.

I'd call Snow and offer him the next 18 7th round picks for the Islander 1st this year and see if he bites on it

And I don't see Berube and Hextall as Yes men. Hextall didn't come back to just be that type of GM. He could have went other places. Plus he wants to build his legacy and he knows if he gets a Stanley cup to Philly he will get a fricken statue.

I guess Goulbourne's agent is doing the right thing by his client, but he's got to know his client's only negotiating plank is that the Flyers thought he was good enough to be taken in the 3rd round.

37 points in 68 games ain't getting it done for an ELC.

Good luck even getting an AHL ATO with those kinds of numbers... he'd be pretty dumb not to sign the AHL SPC.

i go back and forth: sure they all know more than i do but then why is there no cups in 40 years, no nhl-ready prospects, all kinds of cap issues?

.....and of course yet another ex-flyer w/ the gwg in ot in the conf final last night just to (frank)ing piss me off just that little extra bit

Is this a deep draft?

Is there a possibility if the Flyers indeed remain at # 17 that there could be a player available who isn't 3+ years away from contributing at the NHL level?
