Until you figure in the fact we will have the highest paid d again this year and be exposed again if we make the playoffs. And we will be having this same conversation again in 12 months
- Sms401

Why is this such a big deal to people? It is what it is.

Why? Because most of our D comes from the FA pool, or signing people for market price after a trade like AMac. That will happen due to inflation.

So if a top pairing defenseman is not available, should the team not try to improve the defense by adding a solid all around 2nd pair guy like MacDonald. Who upgrades the mobility, and puck movement of the defense?

It becomes a big deal when you see crappy Boyle and Moore skate around them for a minute in a half in a playoff game

You're right I forgot how tuff the big bad flyers are. Because you know teams are scared of us. Then they stand up to the bullies and they cower. No one fears this team anymore. Does this statement help my arguement.

That's what all the losers say. Come on rags blew by our d time and time again. How's that got anything to do with our forwards? Or was it the game plan? Here let them go wide, blow by you, cut in front of net, hope goalie makes great save, let them get rebound, let them take another shot or go behind net or pass wherever they like. Ok my bad bad game plan. Fire coach

actually, if you look at the teams still currently playing, it seems to be what the winners say.

i feel as though youve missed my point.

team defense is very much both preached and practiced by the teams left. look at the kings. literally a paragon of the phrase.

the rangers too, although they also rely a good deal on the ole clutch and grab

I've been watching the LA Kings play, and when I see Chicago breakout of their own end, I see an LA King forward right there with a neutral zone presence to stop them and cut them off. I see a team that plays a consistent team checking game. What do forwards do when the other team has the puck, stand around and wait for the defenseman to get it back? As far as winners and losers. The winners play defense as a team and support the defenseman. The losers don't.

Yeah I get your point. My point is how many times did I hear it out of flyers this year only to see differently on the ice.

Ain't that the truth. It's basically what the Seahawks secondary did all year and in the playoffs/Super Bowl. They played physical with WRs/TEs basically daring the refs to call pass interference or holding on every play, knowing they wouldn't. Both defenses (Rangers and Seahawks) are also damn talented. But they definitely know how to get away with a little extra that makes beating them that much more difficult.

That's the whole point. The Flyers as a team, were inconsistent defensively. But when a team breaks down defensively, just blame the defenseman. Because they're the only player responsible for playing defense.
