Ugh, I cringe at the idea of over-looking two 50 goal scorers and taking Goulbourne who will probably never equate to anything outside the AHL

I'm glad Holmgren isn't drafting anymore, outside the first round, his drafting record is horrendous.

I still can't accept the idea that they thought some other team would take him in the 4th round.

We don't have a 4th this year either, and they better not pull the same poop again.

Bjorkstrand and Duclair. Guaranteed 50 goals next season for their respective NHL teams.

I think 50 is a little low.

Quick Question for discussion.

The Islanders want dmen. The Flyers have cap issues. The Islander are willing to trade the 5th overall. I am not advocating just thinking out loud. Would you package the Schenns(if B. Schenn wants big raise) and 2nd rounder to move up to 5th overall. Then you have 5th overall and 17th overall. Would you replace the 2nd rounder with 17 if it got deal done?

My reason is it would help you cap situation and allow you to take to prospects if you were to keep 5 and 17. Also what if 5 and 17 allowed you to move to 1 overall and get one of the top guys.

So Schenn, Schenn, 1st rounder, 2nd rounder for Ekblad?

If he falls out of the top 10, I imagine the Flyers won't be the only ones looking to move up. There will be other teams with many more assets. Flyers aren't really stacked with 2nd and 3rd rounders over the next 2 seasons.
- PhillySportsGuy

Exactly. I would love to get him but its not really realistic. The one player that I really believe will fall out of the top 10 is Kasperi Kapanen. Hes had some injury trouble this year and posted a really subpar U18s

Which 50-goal scorers are you referring to?
- jmatchett383

The ones Bill alluded to as potential drafting options the Flyers over-looked in round 3. Obviously their scoring seasons happened the season after the draft, but still, both had shown signs of scoring prowess in their previous year before being drafted. Look-up the names Bill mentioned in the blog.

So Schenn, Schenn, 1st rounder, 2nd rounder for Ekblad?
- PhillySportsGuy

Actually probably Ehlers or Michael DalColle

Great read on the "no quick fixes"... all you need to add is a paragraph about trading everything to get Eklbad and it'll be truly all-encompassing.

(and really psyched with Hexy's approach to Goulbourne... don't think that would have ever happened under the previous regime)

I think the Flyers should stay put. This will be a strange draft because there really doesn't seem to be a consensus on anyone.

There will be picks that surprise and guys will fall. I wouldn't mind trading back and collecting some picks for next season. I hate the idea of not having any 2nd rounder next year in a deep draft.

I think Button has him weirdly low when I last looked at his ranking but honestly I think he will go late in the top 10 or early teens. There are many teams before us who would take him.
- FrmRusiaWifGlov

Yeah. I didn't know if the shoulder injusry would drop him enough. Our luck he goes 16

He was saying we move Schenn, Schenn, 2nd rounder for #5.

Then, we move #5 and #17 for #1 overall.

So a 4 for 1 swap. The one being a good defensive prospect who is 18 years old and never played an NHL game.

I concur. I really dont get the Ekblad love, but I dont feel like starting on a rant about why he is not worth it. I hate trading back but this is the draft to do it. I also dislike not having a 2nd in such a deep draft next year. Would have easily rather have given up a second this year.

lol, man, me either. My friend is an amateur scout for ISS and he even said the Flyers taking Goulbourne in the 3rd round took most of his staff and scouts off-guard.

Even watching him, he doesn't have the speed or tenacity that Rinaldo has, and he has what I call AHL hands... I pray I'm dead wrong on this, but I really don't think we'll ever see anything from Goulbourne as a Flyer.

No, but they NO QUESTION seem to project more offensively than Goulbourne...

The fact they put up 50 in junior doesn't mean it'll translate directly to the NHL, but you'd be a fool to think it won't translate somehow, even if they're 20+ scorers, they're more than Goulbourne will more than likely EVER be at the AHL and NHL.

For those of you who haven't watched him play, he's not fluid, he's not as feisty as Rinaldo, and only had a slight element of size.... That's it... Literally...

He's the next Zac Rinaldo, who is the next Steve Downie, who is the next half Mike Richards, who is the next Bobby Clarke.

So he's half as good as Bobby Clarke.

If trading back/out would get them another top-45 pick in next year's draft, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Fans would probably set the WFC on fire, but who cares.

Doesn't just have to be Ekbald. Could be bennett, Draisitl or Reinhart. Was just thinking out loud.

Woul you do it and keep 5 and 17. Then you can take probably to solid prospects.

Yeah. If they can trade down and collect some picks, it would be good. I don't remember the last time the Flyers traded down. Seems like it never happens.

Could be, but we'd have no need for those three, all centers.
