no for the EDM deal. Love Despres. No interest in moving him.
I still dont get people's love for Evander Kane on this board. - SuperHenderson13
Agree on the Tampa and Edmonton deal. Just don't like what is coming back the other way enough. Might be different if Perron was signed for a longer term, but he isn't.
I'd take Neal for Kane. Evander Kane isn't a without his flaws, but he's 22yrs old, very skilled and can create his own opportunities. Kane, Crosby, and Malkin would be one heck of a triple threat.

LOL ... is that thing about Kane to entice me to respond?
I think our injuries to Maatta and Pouliot limits the Pens realtive to possibly moving Despres if they wanted to.
If they did move him. I would be interested in the Tampa deal.

Still hoping Kane does something dumb, like rob a bank to verify even more questions surrounding him. Everyone sees the talent, but are fine with him being a very immature kid. Funny, it should send red flags that Winnipeg thinking of dealing him.

Trade one immature talent for another. At least kane doesn't need a talent center to produce... I'll be happy either way keep or trade neal for kane...
I just want more picks or winger prospects.. |

Is Neal immature off the ice? Yep, he is on the ice, but the fact is this ... Mario has started he wants character guys, so Kane doesn't fit that. He is very immature off the ice. Simple question ... if Winnipeg wants to make the play-offs and they have a supposed budding star in Kane, who is 22 years old, why would they be so eager to deal him? 22 year old talents like him don't grow on trees. There is a huge red flag here. Winnipeg wants to rid themselves of him. Why is that?
You don't trade Neal for prospects or picks. That is poor asset management and quite frankly a dumb idea. |

that's just it... hey guys, we're sick of neal being an immature little punk... so hey, lets trade him for another immature punk.
kane is a great player, but when his team wants to trade him, it should tell you that they're sick of him.

Never said I trade neal for prospects and picks... I said I want prospects or picks meaning it is something pens don't have that i want...or I would have said I would trade neal for prospects and picks...
So before you go saying it is a dumb idea maybe you should read a little better...or ask the question before putting stating something is dumb or stupid...

Has it ever been confirmed that Kane is really on the market? All I've read is pure speculation.
I'm sick and tired of James Neal being a perimeter player and coming up small in the playoffs.
Wow is this Hawk/Kings game great! |

my guess would be that they're not looking to trade him but will listen to the offers. no doubt many teams will be interested. |

Realistically I'd like to see Despres, Dumoulin and Bortuzzo playing on the first team next season. Let them fight it out for playing time. I wonder how Harrington is doing in the AHL so far.. Him and Samuelsson could become a shutdown pairing. |

Harrington is extremely solid, he will def. challenge for a Pitt roster spot next season. Samuelsson is a bit murkier. He has his good games and makes some bad plays and commits costly turnovers at times. His playoff play hasn't been his best showing however he just came off an injury stint a few games ago. What gives me hope is that he really picked up his play when he got called up to Pitt. He seemed to learn a lot and when he got sent back down here he still played strong. Dumoulin IMO is built up a bit more than he should be on this board. For a guy his size he isn't physical at all. He's got a cannon for a shot which shows he has strength but his accuracy is a bit wild. He could turn into a bottom pairing member in the NHL but I don't see him as being much of a standout. Out of what we have here in WBS, Despres and Harrington are the two with the most obvious upside. |

Is that a hunch?
What a great game last night! Maybe the best game of the playoffs. There's a good chance the Rags/Habs don't win a game in the finals. |

100% Agree. I also fully agree with the assessment posted on an older thread that Harrington is a younger version of Scuderi...pretty spot on assessment.
Side note, last night in an ugly game 3 Despres was not happy with some of the Ice Caps antics and in one fluid motion dropped a glove and gave a cheap shot jab to the opponents chin which caught him completely off guard even thought they were squared off facing each other. The kid has a nasty side when needed which I also like. |

I read Despres had a pretty descent game last night. Good to see him starting to play with more of an edge. I noticed it when he was up with the Pens this year. He added that hip check as well which I think is fantastic. Hopefully the new staff here will actually help him develop in the NHL. Big skating defenseman don't grow on trees you have to be patient.
And do you mean cup runs Scuderi or current Scuderi? |

I don't think that you get anything higher than a 4th rounder for his rights.
I know that we saw a couple of moves last summer, but with the free agent interview window, I can't image why a team would give up too much for a player's UFA rights.
Unless a GM knows that he has a legitimate shot at signing someone, why give up an asset? And if a GM knows he has a shot, there has likely been some back channel tampering going on.
You mentioned Colorado, they do have 3 three 4th round picks, so maybe they do give up one to get a crack at Niskanen.
I can't imagine Niskanen not going to the open market. This is a huge opportunity for him this season, and he'd be foolish to not hear what sort of options he has, both in terms of money, but also in his destination. - rival22
This is exactly why a GM would trade a 3rd or even a 2nd rounder for nisk. This little window means way more teams will be interested and have more time to talk to more UFAs. Im glad they made this little rule because i think the suter and parise situation really took shero away from going hard after other UFAs. Its not the teams fault that players take 2 weeks to figure out what team they want to sign with

Actually, Harrington has more of a bottom six look than Dumoulin. Dumoulin is a great puck mover and a really strong defender in space. He isn't physical but that doesn't stop him from being a top 4 guy. His style is similar to a Paul Martin.
Despres has been great in the AHL playoffs though. He is ready. |
