You think he'd stay with the Flyers opposed to Anaheim (where he won a Cup), St. Louis (where he won a Hart and was captain for a number of years), or somewhere closer to where he grew up (Toronto???)?

It's simply a discussion of the hypothetical situation that somebody proposed. Also working for the Flyers does not mean that he has to live in Philadelphia. Mark Howe lives in Pennsylvania he works for the Red Wings

Probably have to conduct an autopsy to make sure the player isn't faking death in a effort to circumvent the Cap.

Honestly, would you put it past the Flyers?

Justin Williams, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter.

Justin Williams maybe, although he's a Winger. I don't expect Schenn to be as good as Richards was in his prime here, or as good as Carter is now.

I know. I'm just wondering if he'd (hypothetically)prefer to stay with the Flyers when he has other teams where he had more personal and team success. That's all.

I think he still has that potential, but I think it's far likelier he becomes a 60 point #2C

I'm not saying I'd resign Steve Downie either (and if he had played well all year, he'd be too expensive). Yes, if he's healthy and unsigned, a tryout would be fine, but I still would be hesitant to sign him with his recent past.

I'd rather go after a guy like Patrick Eaves or Mason Raymond, as long as you can get them for around $1.5M. Still can't figure out why we didn't go after Raymond this past off season.

I feel Sean Couturier and Matt Read would work best with a skilled grinder type, which those two names are not. A guy who's okay defensively but also can create space offensively.

The point was that not all top-5 players are guaranteed to be star players. I thought that was fairly clear.
- jmatchett383

I agree but usually when the top 3( and that's what original thought was) are fairly well hyped they turn out pretty decent. If so then any of this years top. 3 ( bennet/Reinhardt/ekblad + eberle is well worth a #6 dman(l schenn) a debate able #2 center that no one can agree on what the hell he is ( b schenn) and a pure pp specialist that only other skill is winning an occasional fight ( simmonds) perdonly I think a lot of our players are over valued. I agree to be patient in theory but come on. We'd really rather be patient with schenn the. Go get ekblad or bennet?

If he worked as a scout, he wouldn't be in Philly much anyway. He wouldn't be in St Louis much either.

I looked at the UFA list and didn't see anyone like that (a Steve Ott type) that can realistically be had for under $1.5M

I don't think he has the defensive or playmaking acumen that Richards has. Nor does he have the speed and shot that Carter possesses.

As successful as Richards and Carter have become, they're compliments to LA, not the focus. Yes this sounds nuts because Carter might be in the conversation as the Conn Smyth but one 40 plus goal season for a sniper? Not good enough. He does a lot of other things well, which is my point and all you can ask from Schenn. It's not too late for Brayden Schenn to break out.

I don't agree that they're compliments. They are key players in LA. Richards this year has sacrificed personal gains for team gain. Carter is arguably the teams 2nd best forward next to Kopitar.

That's why as crazy as it sounds, we might want to keep a close eye on Steve Downie.

I often wonder what's next for Tye McGinn.

Well let's see what Marian Gaborik looks like in a full season with the LA Kings.

Regardless of individual roles, they've put together one hell of a team.

Corsi darlings.

Ekblad projects more as an Erik Johnson than a Seth Jones/Drew Doughty. He'd have a tough time cracking the top-6 last year.

I'm not saying he'll be a similar player to them. I just think he still has the potential to be a 70-80 point player. I don't want to set his ceiling at 60 points.

Like I said though. I would bet against him ever reaching #1C center status.

Bullpoop. You know that all of our players suck and that the best way to fix the team is to throw them away and start over, until they hit their mid-20s, at which time we throw them away and start over again. That's the Philly fanbase way.

I am? Pretty sure everyone agrees locally and nationally that we need more team speed/ better dmen/ and high end skill. Which of current players is going to improve with time to meet those standards? Answer : none yes we have prospects coming to help fill some of those needs but that doesn't make us a contender. For example. If we got eberle where would he play? Right on the top line with g that's where. Why? Because he's a top talent. No fuss no muss. No guessing well maybe play him here maybe play him there. Almost everyone of our players are like that. Where to play read where to play schenn. What about simmer or couts. We have some nice young tent for sure but under value I do not. Outside of g and maybe jake and couts (defensively) we do not have elite talent. But we do have enough talent to make a move to get some elite talent
