Maybe I'm missing something but do some of you look at some switches as a pecking order? You simply replace one guy with another and voila! You have to find the right fit. Right now the perfect fit is Read to play with Couturier. In my opinion, it would be nice to find that perfect complement to the two of them.
- SuperSchennBros

Absolutely. A healthy Downie looked like the fit, but sadly we only saw him for a hot minute, and I don't see that guy coming back any time soon. It sounds crazy, but that two-way winger who can play solid defense and pop 15 goal a year is not easy to find, despite the "dime a dozen" references thrown around.

What type of player is John Tavares?
- jmatchett383

Great question! Great response! What kind of a player was Joe Sakic? Brayden Schenn isn't one of these two players but it's hard to put a finger on them. They could do so many great things so well. I just feel Brayden Schenn needs to find that balance in a bigger role.

That's right next to Toronto, right?
- Feanor

Didn't they play jrs in Toronto area? That's what I meant? Any jr player with some skill coming out of Toronto area is gods gift you know. I should have been more specific

Still better than former #4 overall Thomas Hickey, taken 2 years earlier.

You're telling me what the rules are. I already know the rules.

I was asserting that the rule is stupid.

- johndewar

All I can tell you is that with what the purpose of the cap is, it's not stupid. So I guess it's a matter of opinion.

Anyone think Jake Virtanen from the Hitmen could drop to the Flyers at 17 since he suffered the shoulder injury. If he did would you pick him or think it too big of a risk. Could be a steal once healthy at 17
- J35Bacher

Not a chance. He'll go in the top 8

You can throw a lot of names at the wall and hope they stick. For me, that's not good enough. I wouldn't resign Steve Downie any more than anybody else would and I like Steve Downie but I think I would consider offering him a tryout if he's still available in September. When he was healthy, he was really good this year.

The point was that not all top-5 players are guaranteed to be star players. I thought that was fairly clear.

I agree. Not that I'm comparing Brayden Schenn to Mike Richards but Richards was manning the point on the top PP unit by his third season as a Flyer, and leading the team in points because of this with larger roles on the team. Brayden needs a bigger role in my opinion. I think he should at least be killing penalties regularly. And so I ask, what type of player is Brayden Schenn exactly? Is he a two way forward? I don't find him to be that great defensively as a center five on five. Is he a sniper? Not consistent enough with scoring. Playmaker? Nope! Keep in mind that I love this kid and see his potential to be a solid NHL player someday but what is he suppose to be?
- SuperSchennBros

I honestly don't ever see him as a player that excels in one area. I don't think he'll ever be a top point producer, or top goal scorer. I don't think he'll ever be a top defensive forward. I see him as just a solid all around 2nd line center, capable of scoring in the 20-30 goal, 60 point range. And honestly, that's a good player.

I like read with couts if you want to use him on a more defensive line but put I'd love to see him with a dynamic center like bennet on the 2nd line away from other teams top checking line. He can fill either roll nicely I think. Can't go wrong either way.

I'm telling you all, we should trade up to #11/12 if Hayden Fleury is still available. Dude's awesome.
- jmatchett383

I like him too. My list of guys are:

Sam Bennett
Aaron Ekbald
Nick Ritchie
Jake Virtanen
Hayden Fluery
Michael Dal Colle

And sadly I don't think any last till the Flyers unless Virtanen drops due to the shoulder injury.

I'm not saying I'd resign Steve Downie either (and if he had played well all year, he'd be too expensive). Yes, if he's healthy and unsigned, a tryout would be fine, but I still would be hesitant to sign him with his recent past.

I'd rather go after a guy like Patrick Eaves or Mason Raymond, as long as you can get them for around $1.5M. Still can't figure out why we didn't go after Raymond this past off season.

I know everyone thinks Dal Colle is good, but I don't buy it. I can't say why, I just don't.

That being said, I totally expect Ekblad to drop to us.

Luke played in the Toronto area when he was in Toronto, but they both played juniors in the WHL.

Correct me if I'm wrong but even if a player dies on 35+ contract doesn't it still count against the cap? Even if obvisouly the player isn't being paid because he's dead?

I see him becoming a center somewhere between Mario Lemieux and Kent Manderville.

That is correct, but I believe you could consider him an LTIR candidate, although it would be difficult to have a doctor conduct a physical on him.

LOL, well that's an unprecedented situation. I guess theoretically it would. But you never know what the League would do in a tragic situation like that.

Probably have to conduct an autopsy to make sure the player isn't faking death in a effort to circumvent the Cap.
