Lol things would look brighter if they picked Maata instead of laughton. Thats all hindsight now though. I dont know what made them think Laughton > Maata. - PhillaBully
Maybe let Laughton play a little before coming to that end conclusion.

hate to clarify on my own painfully cliched analogy, but what are you considering as the hammer?
a true top guy? because in a literal interpretation, a guy like grossmann seems like the hammer to me.

What do you think about trying to acquire Myers? Do you think Schenn Schenn + gets him or is that a overpayment? - PhillaBully
Depends on the +....I'd do the Schenns & a 3rd for Myers. Much more than that and you're really starting to get into murky waters.
The contract is more a concern than anything for me. Myers is a talented kid. At worst he's a capable guy...but $5.7mm for a capable guy who doesn't reach his full potential? |

WEll considering the needs at the time, even now what was the point of yet another centerman. I think most people were perplexed by picking laughton over maata at the time. |

This is why I'm open to a guy like Byfuglien, despite his warts. Can't trade the farm to get him, and he's not the only option, but he can do things that nobody else on the roster can approach doing - Jsaquella
Because of his warts, he is the type of d-man the Flyers can get without trading the farm. The Jets haven't increased his value by moving him to wing. Also, he only has two years left on his deal, so there isn't a binding a long-term commitment if it doesn't work out.
Coburn, Carle, and AMac all had warts, that's why they were available and the price wasn't cheap, but not too steep. |

It would make more sense if you said churn the butter, since I finished up my year and now am enjoying summer in Lancaster. |

well pony up some of those forwards my friend.
i know people will rail about opening up another proverbial hole, but thats kind of how trading works.
however, you guys have forward depth. i know the whole ah giroux needs a sniper thing. but still, the flyers seldom seem to lose due to an inability to score. i also think that people fail to realize how much a defender with some offensive ability will actually help the offense, helping to further offset the difference. |

sometimes you have to take the risk. if he does reach his full potential than you've got your number one defenseman at the right age. I mean your paying amac 5M what .75 more |

I think B Schenn and Grossman would get you Myers.
I agree with you that a change of scenery is probably what he needs. Playing with a GOOD team often makes a difference. |

Coburn was traded by Atlanta to make a playoff run, and acquire a veteran defenseman. Not sure it was about warts. Carle and MacDonald were dealt for financial reasons I believe.

i think theyll both be good at what they do.
just yet again, whether it be BPA or what not, both teams like to pick the positions that they repeatedly seem to do.
by all accounts, Pouliot looks awesome. but i remember being pretty damn pissed because there were some pretty good winger prospects on the board at 8. but the pens are allergic to those. |

I'm perfectly willing to do that for the right player. The Flyers really can't afford not to, if the right deal comes along.

That's the thing.
Yeah, I'd love Doughty, Subban, Pietrangelo or Keith over him. But nobody is trading those guys, and if they do, it's going to cost an arm & a leg.
Byfuglien does score at an elite level, but he's more than just points. He's a good skater, especially for his size. He's capable of going end to end with the puck. He's very good in transition.
He might not be a hammer, but he's a damned big pair of pliers that can drive in the occasional nail and brings qualities that the rest of the defense lacks |
