The thing we are finding out about McDonagh is the hockey world is just finding out about McDonagh. If people in the national media knew about him like they are getting to know him now, I am not so sure Shea Weber is a Norris Finalist.

No Seabrook would be. He is clearly better than Mac. To say he isn't is "well asinine" and, Suter? Suter sucks. Seabrook is also head and shoulders better than him as well. Seabrook, Keith, and Hjarlmasson should be the nominees for Norris.

I remember you were all pissed at the time. Why trade him then? We were happy to dump Gomez's salary let alone get a prospect.

I really don't know. Gainey was a mess back then, his daughter had died not long before in a boating accident at sea (her body was never recovered). I think he should have just step down.

He was heading into free agency frenzy without much in his roster to attract players...I know he tried to acquire Lecavalier a few weeks before but the trade was shot down by Bettman (thank God for that, if the names rumoured to be involved in that are true). He probably felt he needed to do the deal, and Sather being the experienced guy he is didn't budge and asked for McDonagh. I remember it was something that happened last minute, the day before free agency opened.

The Habs then signed Cammalleri, and Gionta that year.

Sources say there was a deal in place last June to trade Lecavalier to the Montreal Canadiens for goalie Carey Price, center Tomas Plekanec and a prospect, but the deal was blocked by Bettman after Barrie refused to approve the deal.

The two headed ownership there didn't work. Did you guys hear this one? After Stamkos' so-so rookie year. Sather had a hand-shake deal with one of the owners to Get Stamkos for two or three of the following: Michael Del Zotto, Evgeny Grachev, Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky and Dan Girardi. Then the other owner said no.

I love Girardi. But can you imagine if they did that trade period for any 2 or 3 of those players? It's still a fleecing of epic proportions.

The Lightning had 2 owners back then, and one wanted to do the deal and the other didn't. Bettman stopped the deal because he felt that it would deprive a Florida market of one of it's superstars. Nobody knows the what the exact deal was, but the names Plekanec, Price, Subban were in the rumours.

Price and Subban wouldn't have fit Bettman's definition of a superstar?

In 2010? No. Not to a casual Florida fan not looking at future gains. 2014? yea.

Two days off is long enough for fans from both teams to get along for a little bit for a little while, then the poop hits the fan circa 8PM.

I guess but much of that fan-base are transplanted northerners many of them from Canada as well. I get it though, its easier to sell the first overall pick in the draft and hey, you can't argue with the success Stamkos has had down there
