We'd have to throw in some other GOOD asset to get that much out of Nashville.

I'd take just Hornqvist and the 1st for Spezza in a second.

i'd rather josi then hornqvist

Y'all are aware Hornqvist is just a 2nd line forward who will max out at around 50 points. Or is the assumption in a Sens uni he would jump to 70/80 points? I don't think he adds a great amount in a return for Spezza.

Josi is going to be a real solid d-man. Don't know if the Preds would part with him. I think they would have to assume Ryan Ellis is making a big leap this year if they were to consider it.

Unfortunately any deal will be a quantity over quality. The main thing is getting players that can contribute now.

I hope he stays and signs though.

Here's hoping teams lowball Murray.

he's still a top six forward. when you consider the rest of the package was a 24 year old top 4 d-man, and an 11th overall pick....that's a pretty good return.

i assume that in a more offensive system, he could potentially put up more points. definitely not 80, but 20 goals and 60pts is conceivable, and pretty solid IMO.

I think that's exactly the kind of increase you could expect. The guy has led a team in shot differential for something like 4 straight years with no weapons at all on offence. He would be a perfect fit for zibby on L2, would basically give us two Mac-Turris type combinations to roll out - guys that don't light up the scoresheet every night, but always limit chances against.

I don't think the deal is bad. I think it's a little out there. I think you have to drop the 1st rounder.

My comment was just on Hornqvist. Not sure why there's a love fest for him. Yes, a top 6 forward. However, he is 27. Probably what he is now is what he is going to be. Doesn't add anything special. Plenty of those kinds of players in the league.

Oh, definitely not a love fest, at least not on my part. of the 3 assets in that package, imo, he's the least valuable. he's a decent player, better than a "throw in", but i won't be broken up if they make a deal with them and don't get him.

the real prize to me is Josi

I think the deal is ok. Would be nice to get a player who is NHL ready now and has room to grow (since we won't be ready to contend for 3-4 more years apparently right?). I think Josi falls into the same group. Much younger, but hit 40 points last year while being good defensively, which I think was always his ceiling. Maybe I am wrong there. Who knows, but I would like to get a great player back rather than decent players. If that means not having 3 pieces coming back, so be it.

i think josi is exactly what we need to play with karlsson. young (same age as EK, room to grow with him), is solid in his own end, but good enough to skate with karlsson and chip in when needed. he's been playing top line minutes with weber (almost 27mins a night). i think he'd be PERFECT to play with karlsson.

hornqvist slots nicely onto the 2nd line, meaning we wouldn't have an entire line of rookies or 2nd line players. he's a possession type guy, so would fit well into Mac's system.

and the 11th pick is the 11th pick, not much more to say about that.

both players are signed to very good deals, for a few years.

i think it's a great package for spezza, and it's basically a "Money in - money out" type deal, which melnyk loves.

Could the wild be a potential suitor?

I could see spezz being slotted as that #2

Or if koivu gets traded (which a lot of wild fans believe should happen) he slots as their #1
