What is your criteria when you choose players that you think should play on the sens?
- monkhouse

Skilled with the puck and doesn't take stupid penalties. I'd want to get rid of the 4th line but I can't see any of them leaving..

Honestly I think a lot of the Sens failures rested on the fact that we were slow and lazy. Too much clutch and grab and stupid penalties in the offensive zone or retaliation penalties. I want players that can take some abuse and skate away instead of trying to get revenge. The best revenge is to let the other team be stupid and when we get the PP make them pay!

The new NHL is all about puck control and skating ability. 4th lines are marginalized nowadays. No need to have bruisers in the lineup.

If ther Sens can become a team that draws more penalties then takes then we would have easily been a playoff team.

I think sometimes you embellish what I (and others) say to try and make your point more "impactful".

not really sure what i embellish. on the other hand, you've been saying for weeks now that spezza's offense is ir-replaceable in this lineup, despite the fact that he only scored 7 more points than turris, playing easier minutes. THAT seems like a bit of an embellishment to make your point more impactful.

i think the return for spezza will be just fine. the rumoured return for kesler is ridiculous, and it's not crazy to think spezza could get close to, or the same as him. yes, kesler is signed for an extra year or two, but spezza is a better player, IMO.

i don't buy the "the return isn't what they're looking for" debate. teams are probably low-balling, trying to see if they can steal him. when push comes to shove, murray will get a good deal for him.

I also agree that the packages will get more enticing. At the same time, most teams don't want to give up big young pieces for a guy who may walk in one year. There is a chance a team could sign him right away, but there is just as big a chance that they won't. Gotta look at the other teams perspective as well. Especially with the boatload of teams (Nashville excluded) "interested" are already pretty close to being Cup contenders.

just you tuna.......but everyone likes to do it, not just me.

besides, pointing out your lack of hockey knowledge isn't insulting, it's simply stating a fact, in an attempt to help you not look so foolish.

there's a difference between having differing opinions, both based on sound facts (like Gord and I have). It's an entirely different beast when you spout off at the mouth, clearly having no clue what you're talking about (like every single one of your posts)

Isn't it beneficial to have both Spezza and Turris?

I prefer a center lineup of Spezza, Turris,Zbad Smith/Pageau/Dacosta.

The Sens won't settle for a substandard package just to move him because he's had conflicts with Mac. Teams will have to give to get. The package will have a proven player coming back.

sure, if spezza signs a short term deal.

it's not beneficial at all to have a broken down, 37 year old spezza, who's eating 7+ mil of our salary cap.

my ideal situation would be if spezza were to sign a 2-3 year deal, which would put turris in his prime and zibby near it when the deal expired. plus, he'd probably still have a little value left at the end of the deal, so we could move him then.

however, i live in the real world, where i can't imagine for 1 second that spezza will take less than a 7-8 year deal.
