Not sure why that is dismissed like it isn't an upgrade.
Fleury apologists will point to the team in front of him not playing well enough, getting left out to dry yada yada yada.
Reimer is not afforded that same luxury?
Why are his numbers better than Fleury playing on a worse team?
The Leafs define leaving a goalie out to dry. - Ryan_Wilson
Because it isn't an upgrade. He's (frank)ing terrible. If the team is getting an overhaul you don't band aid the most important position on the team, you fix it. |

The cap growth is the biggest thing. Everyone is looking at this year and next but don't realize in 3 years the letang signing will look like an average defensive signing. I think Subban will break 8 mil, and the bar will keep getting higher after that if the cap does keep going up. For this year trades though are the most likely scenario. Trading MAF, Scuds, and possibly Neal - drummer829
I agree. It's why I am not in favor of trading Letang or under stand the "His contract is terrible" talk.
The same can be said of Neal, to a certain extent. His $5M/yr contract isn't cheap, but it will be more manageable with time. Also he is inly 26yrs old so I wouldn't expect a steep drop-off during his current deal. Its why I think the team has to get a comparable player in return for him rather than simply picks or prospects. Re-tool, not re-build. |

Neal's contract isn't the problem, his attitude is. |

Getting picks and prospects is a non starter. He stays unless you can make a winger for winger deal. |

Factor in you have to trade something to get him as well and it's just a bad move IMO. |

My prediction people will be traded for other people by a gm who we don't yet know. I said it so it will be. |

why not win on 2 fronts
make a trade for reimer including neal
sides can work out what it takes to = things out.
leafs are shy of a good 2nd line winger to play with lupul and kadri...
reimer is probley in the overall as good as MAF, but younger, cheaper and to be frank, he had a tough go this season due to confidence, mostly due to bad coaching and the GM bringing in a better goalie.
not sure if neal is who i want, he takes a ton of stupid penalties, but hes good on the PP and has a great shot...i do like that he knees guys like marchand in the head when they are down though...honestly, (frank) marchand. |

Agree about the picks and prospects being a non-starter, but less about the "winger for winger deal" as a must. Swapping the same posistion is always hard due to the team need/wants being the similar. |

I see what you are saying, but that deal is very hard from the Pens perspective. Moving Neal blows a hole in the Top-6 & acquiring Reimer doubles the goalie situation w/ Fleury under contract. Unless you believe the Pens can the flip trade Fleury for a Top-6 W (I certainly don't) it hurts more than it helps. Additionally, Reimer is a RFA while Neal is signed for 4 more yrs.
The Pens would need to do a deal along the lines of [Neal + Despres/Dumoulin] for [Reimer + JVR], but I doubt the Leafs would want any part of that.

if leafs still had kulemin signed id say:
reimer + kulemin may do the trick.
but hes a UFA now.
leafs wouldnt move JVR for Neal, to be honest. |

That's essentially the same team with a worse goalie. I think you can expect more changes than what you have here.

It wouldn't take much to get Reimer from Toronto. He's obviously not in their plans, and if you offer sheeted him, it would only cost a 2nd round pick (not that we have one of those).

leafs will try to move Reimer this summer.
if you ask me, all this guy needs is a bit of goalie coaching and some confidence and he will be solid enough to hold the fort. |

I like the Pouliot addition I'd move Duper down there to form a very good 3rd line and go find someone to play on Sids line. Bennett scares me in the top 6 with his health issues. |

pens need to go and get the nastiest mo fo out there to play with crosby and protect the guy, my god...he and kunitz should be good enough to produce, even if someone is shadowing sid. but he needs someone to help him with the tough stuff, mario should know better; i expect this will be changed this season. |

I think it will change. Mario made it a point to make a comment about not protecting their stars. I hope it's someone who can actually play hockey that is my only ask. |
