you cannot have more than 2 rookie dmen in your top 6. that's utter suicide.
also, there are only 3 veteran defencemen under contract for next year, including Subban. that's not much of a logjam.

Well like I said, I'm just assuming Markov is coming back. Maybe they let him go, the only thing I'd be worried about is Emelin isn't the same with a different partner (not that it's a good reason to keep someone around).

I agree about not overloading the blueline with rookies, but who would you trade or keep down. I don't see they can justify keeping any of the 3 of Beaulieu Tinordi or Pateryn in Hamilton next year.

They need at least one other Russian to translate for him... Not sure Galchenyuk is up to the task...

That's part of what I figured. Not sure anyone else can really talk to him on the ice.

i think Markov is an interesting decision. my personal hope is that they take his money and re-invest it up front. we have help coming on D. up front, there isn't much coming from within.

So three rookies on the blueline.

I for one give this idea TWO thumbs up.

Would be nice to try and improve up front. I like some of the wingers we've drafted the last 2 years, but they're a few years away yet.

i would like to see them re-sign Weaver, bring on another verteran dman (Orpik or someone) and give Beaulieu and Tinordi full-time jobs in October. will be growing pains no doubt, they gotta get these guys in. Markov... think he's just gonna want too much term. gotta know when to walk away from good players.

No, not all 3, but that raises the question of which ones do you keep and who do you trade.

I don't see Pateryn and Nygren in the top 6 next year on a regular basis.

I feel you have to trade Pateryn in that case though. He was the best player in Hamilton last year, it's kind of a slap in the face.

Nygren is a bit of an enigma. I've always been intrigued by his game and potential, but I don't think he'll play anywhere but Montreal or Sweden (Can't say I blame him for not wanting to be in Hamilton). I feel like he could turn into a good NHL player, but the way the teams stocked at the moment the chips are never going to fall properly for him to make it in.
