he's destroying his value as we speak. Nobody will give him term on a big number. No chance.

Vanek shows the typical traits of a streaky player. He just doesn't seem to be overly engaged in a team that has gone deep. Yet someone will still pay big $$ for him.
- FuzE_gus

Agreed, but i really don't get the point of playing him with Plekanec on a shutdown line that plays against the opponents' top line. He is a streaky, offensive-minded only winger why not just keep him with Patches and DD. He is there to score goals so why not just put him on the 1st, a line that has been decent since the begin of the playoffs. I would also try Galchenyuk-Plek-Gallagher and if it's not clicking, switch Gionta and Gallagher.

This team needs a break in game 3 and they could be back in this series.

pretty sure they can send him to Hamilton worst case, with only a negligible cap effect.

would be surprised to see Budaj back next season. i think this situation will force Bergevin into upgrading, whether that means Tokarski or even going out and getting someone like Reimer if he's cut loose from TO. will be the second straight year we lose in the playoffs with Price on the sideline, 4th injury in 3 seasons. they need someone they can trust for more than a spot start here and there.

The backup goalie in hockey and the backup QB in football are probably the two hardest posistions to assess, you want someone that can win if you need them, but you also hope you don't need them

Oh I know...

but a career GAA of over 5 is pretty (frank)ing bad.

yeah for sure. and if you have a guy who can play 70 games every year and never gets hurt, great. but at this point, Montreal has to be prepared for the scenario.

his value was 7.5 over 7 before the playoffs started.
if he wants 6 or more at this point, no one will offer more than 3 years.
I spoke to a lot of people at last night's game about him--people in the know. You think Minnesota's all in, but the hockey people in Minnesota aren't. The owner sees the marketing potential, but they aren't breaking the bank for Vanek.

If he wants to sign there, it's not going to be anywhere close to what he was originally going to make.

He's hurting his value a lot. A lot. I'm not just sharing my opinion with you.

I agree.

Like Bergevin said saturday morning, "you have guys that get you in the playoffs, and others that help you win in the playoffs".

Vanek helps you get in the playoffs.

Again, I don't want to be an internet doctor, but we don't know the extent of Price's injury...if it's serious, and he requires surgery, he might be out for a substantial amount of time, and the Habs may need an able goaltender who can do the job until he's back.

But....Now I doubt Montreal is willing to offer up that 8th year.

So he loses at least one year on his last big contract.

Habs got in the playoffs without him...Enough heart and soul guys to build on. Vanek won't be one of them...

Would love to see him made an example of. Maybe there is more to the story but how do you NOT get up for games in the ECF. IF you're a big time player commanding big time bucks this IS the time to shine. I hope you're right. Losing a big player like Price we need him to step up or we don't need him here...
