I don't think there is a need to move Rinaldo. He is cheap and can play solid 4th line minutes. He is young and if there is a fight I would much rather him do it then Simmonds or one of our better players. Once he is due a raise then they can move on from him or he can take Rosehil's spot once his deal is up. There really isn't a market to deal Rinaldo and when he is going good he does provide good energy and maybe playing with a more skilled player like Laughton will create a btter 4th line - J35Bacher
If there isn't a market for him, meaning no one wants him, why the hell should he be playing 70+ games for the Flyers? He takes too many dumb penalties, and has no versatility. He skates pretty well, and has some energy, but he's not an NHL regular. |

He once again duped the flyers coach in the playoffs into thinking he could handle more minutes |

Well at least he had more impact than a schlub like Carcillo right? RIGHT?

They need to break up the lines some. VL needs some skill to play with & BSchenn & Simmonds just don't play that way. I think they can get by just adding a Mason Raymond type of player. They had 7 20 goal scorers so I think they can figure out how to be successful with this group of forwards. How about we try...
Harts - G - Read
Raffl - VL - Jake
BSchenn - Couts - Simmonds
Rinaldo - Laughton - Akeson - iladel90
I like what you're going for here but part of me wonders if line-mates even matter for Vinny. He dragged down anyone he played with last year.
I'm afraid the problem with him is systemic and the talent on his wings won't fix that.
Also, I'm good without seeing Hartnell on Giroux's wing from here on out. He has a tendency to stand still in the same spot in the circle and it makes it easy to defend and takes away space for Giroux. On other lines he works for the puck and gets into the corners. With G he just expects the puck to come to him it seems. |

My favorite was the Rinaldo on the PK experiment. That was a real hoot. |

I have to say Rinaldo is not the leader of dumb penalties on the Flyers. I think that goes to Hartnell. Not only dumb but at terrible times. A lot of Rinaldos could be reputation or energy penalties. |

I hope Hextall has a plan to get rid of Rinaldo and Rosehill. 70+ games of Rinaldo, and 30+ of Rosehill is a waste of time. - PLindbergh31

Agreed. Rinaldo will never get the benefit of the doubt from the referees. Another reason why it doesn't make any sense to play him. In order to have any effectiveness he has to play on the edge, when he does he spends time in the box. Defeats the purpose. |

Flyers like to be out on the forefront ahead of the curve. Got Z2 in the pipeline. Bam Now we don't have to worry about resigning Rinaldo when his big payday comes around |

You say don't play him but you don't offer a reasonable alternative. He is signed to a contract. Not like NHL where you can just release him. So if you don't trade him then you should play him. Now what team will give you something that is worth even trading him. Then it becomes a situation where he is worth more to you then what you get in return. He has a skill set and role and he plays it. |

Teams like Nashville and Toronto and Calgary, that are looking for C, would have to exhaust a lot of primary options first before settling on VL. Stastny, Spezza, OS Johansen, trade for younger/better player... - Tomahawk
I don't think Stastny or Johanssen are going anywhere. Spezza is a one year rental and Ottawa want a non-rental price for him. |

If the Flyers can dump him for a 6th round pick to just get rid of his contract it would be great. Use the 700k of savings towards more useful players. Flyers have 1.4 million tied up in two contracts Rosehill and Rinaldo and it's a complete waste. They aren't NHL players. |

I'd keep Rinaldo on the roster just to keep him from signing in the division. Imagine him on the pens, he'd be playing on Cindy's wing scoring 30 a year and taking out Giroux. |

So now you want to replace Rinaldo. Who do you want? Who is to say that then next guy you target doesn't want 1.4 million. Now you pay that for one guy when you want to upgrade the d and wing and need a back up goalie. I want to upgrade the 4th line too but you have to pick and choose where you want to apply your funds. I would love Brian Boyle or Vernon Fiddler but your going to probably have to pay 1-2 million for them. typ

Correct. But with not an immediate person to replace him then he is fine with the minutes he plays. For as much as everyone hates on him about he is worthless and is not an nhl player they sure boast when he throws a big hit to change the momentum or knocks a guy out like Crombeen. I agree we need to upgrade but if it is having rinaldo on the 4th line and getting a better top line winger instead of spending more money to upgrade over Rinaldo I'll take getting the Winger. |

Who said you had to fill Rinaldo's spot right away? Call up McGinn, Alderson, etc... or dress 7 D. If those guys don't work out, there are plenty of guys who will get waived after camp and/or during the season that could provide good 4th-line minutes. Rinaldo is quite literally one of the least talented players in the league -- virtually anybody would be an upgrade.
The roster doesn't have to be etched in stone from day 1. |

Don't you think if McGinn or Alderson or whoever in the minors could do it they would have been called up by now. McGinns had plenty of chances to try and stick and they don't see him as a fourth line option. Possibly Holmstrom but he is a center and had an ACL injury. I am not saying i don't want to upgrade. Just saing it is not as easy as "waive this guy, use this guy, get this guy." And yes they can wait till after guys are released but then your still competing with other teams and it is not a given they sign with you. |
