Um do you understand the business side of hockey? Really? You don't? OK hows this:
If you bring Miller in, who is better that Varlomov, you can trade Varlomov. And after the year he has had, his stock is up. You add a draft pick on top of a player the Avalanche neeed. Maybe a top 4 defensemen.
You don't get it yet?
Every team must look at their own roster and explore every player available and see how it can impact their team.
Like MAF to SJ. your telling me youd rather have Niemi in net than MAF? Both have won a Stanely Cup, but Niemi's numbers that post season were just ok. MAF had great numbers the year he won the cup. Yeah he had 2 not so great playoffs but this year he stepped up. It was not on his shoulders that the Penguins lost.
I love how people trash talk Ecklund because he reports what teams are looking at. And everyone balks because they think he doesn't have a clue? Good one. The go find another hockey related website and leave this one.
Thanks for the updates Ecklund!! - BernieKorch
1. Miller better than Varlamov? That's very debatable.
2. MAF: so, Fleury having a not-abysmal playoffs for the first time since 2009 (and you have to go back a year further to get good playoff hockey from Fleury) means he's suddenly a good bed? Niemi's not much better, but he has better career save percentages in the regular season and playoffs. You'd be replacing Niemi with a slight downgrade.

The best part of these goalie rumors is that the Flyers are not mentioned one time. - mickel25

why would the team that needs a goalie not just sign Miller and not have to give up the assets to get Varlomov?? ...... or did that logic blow your mind???? - GadesnSens
Because they can't afford Miller and Varlomov is a cheaper option Hows that for mind blowing!! |

Varlomov has 1 good year and suddenly hes better than Miller? Miller has been great for continuous seasons!!! Anyone remember that Canadiens goalie who won the Vezina in the mid 90's and was sent down to the ahl a year later? It takes more than on season to become a great goalie. Ask Roman Cechmanik or Robert Esche or Brian Boucher!!! |

Miller was pretty good this year, medium for about 4 years prior, so I wouldnt say suddenly. People got to face the facts that he is worn out and past his prime, and never was the same Calibre of a same age Martin Bordeur who managed to play well into his late 30's. |

I'd imagine the Penguins are going to get a GM before they start thinking about moving ANYONE. |

Varly performed better as of late. He's younger and cheaper. That move would make no sense for Colorado.
Miller didn't exactly look Vezina calibre with the Blues. He wasn't bad, but the move wasn't worth being made in the first place.
Miller to Pittsburgh makes no sense either. I'm not too sure he's an upgrade over the flower and Miller's cap hit is higher.

So Avs just sign to Varly to a 6 year extension at 5.9m Cap Hit...so they look at moving him with other assets to try and land a Top 4 Dman... Just to sign Miller at probably a heftier Cap Hit while eating up cap space when the Avs are trying to resign Both Stastny and O'Reilly.
I guess you dont understand the asset management and Cap side of hockey. But youre a flyers fan, youre accustomed to justifying dumb trades and over priced contracts |

SJ would take ANY of the goaltenders suggested over Niemi. Though I would go in this order:
Hiller
MAF (confidence issues)
Miller (confidence issues, and expensive) |

Shouldn't the Devils be prioritizing to re-signing Schneider long-term?
Why Hiller? |

I could see Schneider going back to VAN for some veteran that Lou covets.
As far as EK's overreaching, rumor has it he had dinner with Dee Karl last night. - Fan101
I can see Schneider going back to Vancouver....... If NJ trades for Hiller's right and extends him, then gets Vancouver's 1st to replace the one they gave up and either resigns Brodeur or gets Lack or Markstrom back with the 1st.
Totally possible, lol. |

Because he's being traded back to Vancouver for David Booth.

I agree...However if Cory Schneider for some reason was available I'd take him first. I don't think he is long for NJ and perhaps there is room to move a big name and Niemi to NJ for Schneider. I know pipe dreams and what ifs.
I've not been a Nemo fan from day 1 and if he isn't traded away its not a good or bad thing to me. He is decent, he can get hot, but he has not stolen many games for us. We need the goalies that can steal games. |

I don't see Colorado or NJ interested in goalies. Schnider is good and young, Varlamov had a great year last year, they don't need starters. San Jose could use an upgrade over Niemi. Fleury would do so much better with an actual defense in front of him but I think Miller is on the top of their list. Pens will likely grab Hiller and he will get lit up, guy is horrible. He was the worst goalie on the Anaheim Ducks. His sv% was awful considering he doesn't face many shots. |
