Crosby needs a winger like Lucic. Someone who can make a little room, score a few and act as bodyguard when required. Crosby, Kunitz, Lucic. That's a good line right there. - Grinder6
We do need a Lucic type; but I would slit my wrists if that pecker ever became a Penguin. |

I was wondering if with a few days since the season ended and the Bruins getting eliminated last night if that would buy Bylsma one more year with more cap space to work with. I was thinking Ray may try and bring up points about man games lost, low cap, Olympics, etc. - gershall13
The cap isn't going up that much. We have to unload some big contracts just to make some necessary changes.

1. No shocker really. It's commonplace with those two clowns.
2. You could see in mid March, after the Olympics, he needed a few games off. His play started to look tired. But, instead of doing the best thing for him and let Despres get a few games, they continued to play a tired 19 year old. Kid was never going to admit it or say something, but it was obvious to me.
3. When a coach loses the room, its time for him to go. It's not a hard concept to understand. I understand DB had challenges this year; not only with the roster Shero put together, but the injury situation. I do believe he made a concerted effort to make adjustments in the play-offs to some extent. As someone said earlier, he might have done his best coaching job and will get canned for it.
4. Canning a coach and a GM in the same year isn't a great situation, especially when you look at who is on the waiver wire. I can't thin of a GM that would be an upgrade. Feaster? Gillis? LOL. - Oneonta Penguin
The saying "Loyal to a fault" seems to fit Ray Shero. He's done a many good things as the Pens GM, but I really wonder if he has the ability to be the boss when necessary. You don't have to be a d!ck, but you do have to make some tough decisions. If he doesn't see the reason the owners want Dan gone, he's incapable of making other changes. |

Exactly
It's also not about losing the room for DB. It's his failure to devise a plan to implement a legend in his own right (Iggy) correctly. I was against that acquisition, but there was no plan on his part. His inability to recognize Maatta was gassed, but still roll him out there; inability to see Scuderi sucking it up and not sitting him; inability to play Despres and see what you truly have. |

In order to erase the past five years both must go. This does enlighten the benching Bennett for Glass though, I really didn't think Dan was that stupid. |

When a coach loses the room, and it appears that is what happens, the coach needs to go. There is no keeping him. It's deserved.
Crosby and Malkin need to get thick skin when it comes to criticism from their coach. Are they beyond being criticized in their own minds, while other players get called out.
Babcock would be on their asses; Keenan would too. Quenville would; Sutter would; Boudreau would; Patty Roy would; Carlyle too. - Oneonta Penguin
Let's be careful with that "rumor" reported by the least respected sports "reporter" in this town. Sounds like complete B.S. that Sid and Geno turned on Dan because they weren't having fun and he criticized them.

Plugs like Neal, Kunitz, Dupuis, Bennett, Jokinen, and Stempiak?
You keep Malkin and Sid. What you can't do is spend 4 million on Scuderi or 7 million on Letang when every prospect you have is at the blueline. This story gets old. Let me guess we should trade him o Anaheim? It works if you keep draft picks and have guys to plug in when a Talbot, Kennedy, Cooke leave. We choose to dump our picks on aging veterans at the deadlines.
Oh yeah a reliable goaltender helps!!! Fleury wasn't bad this year but he is the biggest box of choclates in the league!!!
Babcock isn't coming to Pittsburgh. If Shero is still around expect Barry Trotz as he will be looking for someone he trusts as his job is on the line. - lloyd095
All fairness to the dude you are answering, if he read the posts of some of the members of this site, you would think Pascal Dupuis is a worse player than Tanner Glass., thus a plug.
Agree, Babcock isn't coming. The thought of Trotz here terrifies me. May as well trade Malkin and Crosby to Nashville for Weber and Jossi. That is what I would expect to happen. |

Shero's MO is fill needs through the trade deadline, retain old buddies and draft D... Shero is good at what he does but it's killing this team. Scuderi and Adams should not be roster players next year... There has to be players that are effective in more than one situation, those two mentioned were supposed to be great penalty killers, they sucked in the last part of the season and playoffs and they weren't good at anything else so they are bad for this team. Shero won't recognize this.... If by magic he does, hey I'll give him a pass but I don't think he will. |

Well, the Pens could use one of its two compliance buyouts on Adams. Sounds dumb because his salary isn't high at all, but ...

No they can't, he just signed. Contract had to be signed before the CBA came into play |

I can't think of a name I like. Other than Dave Tippett who isn't available either. |

Even if he did a regular buyout... Hey that's moving forward and won't hurt the team. Scuderi could easily be traded... Albeit not for much |

I liked the idea Madden suggested today... Keep Martin as a place holder and wait a year to see how the Babcock situation develops.
Who knows, if Martin performs well, keep him. He's an experienced coach at least. I still wouldn't mind Tocchet getting a shot as an assistant. |

I don't know. If the Pens are going to make a change then make it. Not a wait and see because that could end up being a wasted season. Then you have played 3 systems if you replace Martin.
Edit- Unless Martin is the best candidate and gets a 3 year window. |

x2-who do you think will play with an edge, a 37 yr old who already has 2 cups making 3.75/yr? Or a 20 yr fighting for his career and an actual NHL contract? Time to let the kids play or get out Ray. |

What do you guys think of offer sheeting Reilly Smith... Especially if Boston goes and signs Iginla again before they resign Smith. I think that would put a huge wrench in their plans... Shero obviously won't do it, cause ya know he's nice and a wuss.
Anyway a 3.3 mil offer and below is worth a second round pick.
Above that up to 5 mil it's a first and third.
That looks tempting to me drafting at the back of the pack. |
