I can't think of any realistic scenario that would make Coburn expendable.
- Feanor

I agree with you, but I understand folks looking at Coburn a bit askance, wondering WTF?, with respect to his playoff performance.

I certainly don't want him traded or gone. Aside from his play on the ice, he seems like one of those dudes that leads on this team without requiring a letter on his jersey.

i never expected a run to the cup this year, because i didnt think the pens could get past the bruins. i still dont think should the pens have beat the rags and the bruins beat montreal, that the pens would have advanced any farther.

but, be it unfounded bravado or what, i really, really liked the pens chances against MTL. and thats what makes this all the more upsetting.

Things fell right for them. They don't match up well with the Flyers and Bruins and didn't have to play either.

All those times people complain about the Flyers not shelling out the money for a top line winger for Giroux. When you start giving up money and prospects for top line wingers, it ends up hurting your depth. That's what happened with the Pens. They lacked the ideal depth to compete with the Rangers.

It also hurt that Crosby and Malkin couldn't carry their own lines. They were both forced to play together to generate offense. That shouldn't have to happen. They should only play together during certain times not for entire games.

montreal is a lot like new york in terms of size, ie small, but they speed to burn and more skill than the skirts. and their goalie is just as good and he doens't look like he's wearing a craftmatic adjustable on his chest.

Doesn't Lundqvist usually sit out when the Rags play in Montreal?

I know he did this year. Only 2 games though. I'm not sure about prior to this season.

His stats are horrific in the Bell Centre though.

Edit: Lundqvist is 4-5-2 with a 3.87 goals-against average and .876 save percentage at the Bell Centre.

I think Carey Price has been the best goalie in the playoffs thus far. If he leads them to the Cup Finals, I think it's time we start mentioning his name when talking about the best goalie debate.

Part of the reason why the Flyers don't have a top line sniper to play Giroux is because their defense core has been grossly overpaid for years now.

Agreed.

Also, I'd like Ollie to see some 4th line time at wing and possibly on the second PP unit.

It's going to be an electric atmosphere up there. I think a Hawks/Habs final would be awesome.

You could be right, you could be wrong. That's just one guys opinion and I've never heard of the guy. That site has been around, what, a couple months?

Fair enough. But from watching him in the combines, he just wasn't that good. I would prefer he be judged on his on the field performance, and if he does well, he deserves to make the team for that reason. But if he does badly and doesn't make the team, it should be because he did badly, and not because he is gay.

I fear people will say its because he is gay no matter what. I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your post, but it seems that is the road you are going down.

That doesn't help his cause or the cause of homosexuals in general, IN ANY WAY.

Personally, I want him to do well on his own merits...because I simply don't want to have to listen to all the made up excuses in terms of the Rams and the NFL and people who said he wasn't good enough being called homophobes and haters and all sorts of other vile crap. Its horsepoop.

it is going to be an interesting series

Price has looked like the best goalie in the post season so far, but CSP is also really good

rags have 4 good lines with scoring ability on all 4, and a very good top 4 on D

montreal is quicker and I think their goalie is better by a hair

probably go 7 games

As much as we moan about it, the team has never had trouble scoring (with the exception of the first 15 games this year).

Giroux has put up more points than any other player in the NHL over the last 4 seasons. It would be great to get him a Corey Perry, but he doesn't seem to be hurting for one that badly. I think assets and money should be used in other areas first.

my condolences, sounds like a new coach at least for you guys
I personally wouldn't change much else other then moving Scuderi if possible and shoring up the bottom six, but who knows what happens

for me the Simmonds discussion would start with Maata and even then I have reservations

- Marc D

Omg, if we could get Maata for Simmonds I would be thrilled!

Good post. Coburn is certainly under appreciated. Our back end would be horrific without him. He is still frustrating though as in he leaves you wanting more.
- JFlyers00

now that i will definitely concede. the physical tools leave more to be desired. he SHOULD be that number one. he just hasnt put it together to that extent yet. doesnt mean he isnt a solid level guy though.
