I'd like to see him succeed so it becomes less and less of an issue as more and more athletes come out and prove they can make it or fail based on their athletic ability and their sexuality is nothing for anyone to fear or even care about. Because that's not the situation now. I work with plenty of gay people in an organization that has a strong workplace diversity policy (sexual expression, race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, disability). It is a nonissue now because it has been openly discussed and accepted. Someday it will be true in every league and at every level that if you can play, you can play.

i still think it will take a long time for acceptance. i can't tell you how many times a day i read "f*g" and "f*ggot* in my goalie group on fb. these are mostly teenagers, but sometimes adults. and whether it's being used in a hateful way, or more chop busting/joking manner - it's still used. every single day. it's the first arrow in the quiver.

IMO, if you deal him, you could really get caught leaning too heavily on Hartsy, who will be 33 by the end of next season, with no successor in sight.

Think Simmer's just really strong for his size, and he's got the incredible balance that we all wish Hatsy had. Not sure why people keep knocking his hands... he makes a lot of nifty stickhandling plays in tight quarters.

Because I'm bored..

My dreams for the off season.

-Trade Lecavlier one way or another.
-Resign Kimmo
-I think he fizzled out at the end as a result of playing the olypmics
-Move Grossmann for what they can get
-Do not move Luke Schenn unless its a great deal

Things to explore:
-Trade Amac at the draft and go after Niskanen or another D via trade
-Move Hartnell in a good hockey trade
-Bring in a cheaper forward and/or defender (D.Moore, Jussi depeding on cost)
- Anything that could be an upgrade without a ridiculous commitment in dollar or cap
-Sell high on Simmonds

Regarding Simmonds, I love his attitude and the way he plays the game. But man he has hands of stone and is an awful possession player. I believe his numbers were a product of the position he was put in.

- JFlyers00

I'm right there with you on most of this. Moving Simmonds would be a mistake unless the deal was right (especially if you've already moved Hartnell). I wouldn't be planning on moving AMac. Totally with you on L Schenn. Big D is a slow developing position. As far as I'm concerned they need to be in it for the long haul with both Schenns or move both.

I'd say:

-Find a new home for Vinny (Keep anything less than 1.5 mil a year and it's a solid move.)
-Move Hartnell.
-Move Coburn.
-Move Grossman.

-Sign B Schenn.
-Bring back Kimmo if 3mil or less.(no need to rush signing him see how FA D plays out.)

-Take a run at Niskanen until the price and term gets too high .

-Get 1st line LW.
-Look into cheap LW option for 2nd line.

-Draft a Winger in 1st round (No more drafting centers and developing them outside their position.)

your post is logical and well articulated

could you say a bit more about why you want to move Coburn?
to me this creates a ton of problems in an area where they are already thin. Mobile defenseman capable of playing against all competition.

So Michael Sam gets a reality show on the Oprah network.

I want nothing more than to see this douchebag fail. Not because he's gay, but he's completely using his sexuality and exploiting it to his own personal benefit.

Seems to me like it goes against equality which is what the gay and lesbian community preaches. Real equality would be us never hearing his name again after he came out because he's a marginal NFL roster player if that.

- Just5

The guy has already taken a huge financial hit by coming out. He's the SEC defensive Player of the year and he goes in the 7th round? The 7th Round?!?!?! Seriously, that's a lot of cash damage based on where that type of player is typically drafted.

my condolences, sounds like a new coach at least for you guys
I personally wouldn't change much else other then moving Scuderi if possible and shoring up the bottom six, but who knows what happens

for me the Simmonds discussion would start with Maata and even then I have reservations

yeah. DB actually did a lot of the things this postseason that i wished he would have done all alone. i really dont have as much ire for him as before. however, i do think he has to go, if only for some kind of change.

the team actually strikes me as fairly limited on what they can do. the majority of moves would likely make the team worse.

scuderi HAS to go. however, i view that deal as just as bad/if not worse than the vinny one.

how about we put VL and scuds on a greyhound somewhere and just both agree for the benefit of all to never have them be relevant again?

i really dont read a lot of other hockey sites, and even less read comments from others.

but the amount of pens fans ive seen looking to ship them out is absolutely mind boggling.

i personally dont think malkin should be traded, unless it is for a ridiculous deal that will never happen. but i can at least understand the logic behind it if framed a certain way.

just to ship him out is (frank)ing idiotic.

"One of the co–Big 12 Defensive Players of the Year this season, Texas lineman Jackson Jeffcoat, who had 13 sacks, was one of the two Associated Press All-Americans at defensive end this year. The other was Michael Sam. Despite that strong résumé, Jeffcoat went unselected in New York.”

Stop it. He went in the 7th round because he isn't good enough to be selected any higher. You are talking like there is no precedent for a player with a similar award to go in late rounds, and that simply is not the case.

Thanks,

I go back and fourth on Coburn a lot. (Sometimes I worry that I'm pulling a Matt Carle on him and targeting him for illogical reasons.)

I think what I've settled on is that he might just be too comfortable here. Don't get me wrong he's a solid D but early on we saw so much potential and it just vanished.

I look a things like the awful pass he made to Gill that most blamed on Gill and wonder where his head is at.

I'd like to get more out of a 4.5 a year guy. If I'm going to get an asset for him and have more $$$ to play with I think I pull the trigger. I was hoping they'd use him last year to move up in the draft and nab Nichuskin.

That being said if you can't land a guy that can at least offset some of the loss of Coburn then you probably have to hold on to him.

We had people here who can't wait to trade Claude Giroux, so I understand your pain.
