So Michael Sam gets a reality show on the Oprah network.

I want nothing more than to see this douchebag fail. Not because he's gay, but he's completely using his sexuality and exploiting it to his own personal benefit.

Seems to me like it goes against equality which is what the gay and lesbian community preaches. Real equality would be us never hearing his name again after he came out because he's a marginal NFL roster player if that.

- Just5

And when he gets cut from the Rams the media will be all over it saying it was because he was gay.

Anytime you break a barrier it is news regardless of the guys talent.
Jackie Robinson was a talented player, but people talk more about him breaking the color barrier than talk about his skills. You bring up his name, and the first comments are first African American to play with Major League baseball.

I can only imagine the kind of media coverage that event would get today. It would dwarf the Sam's situation and there would be all kinds of specials, and reality programming on it.

Sams is not just a gay man, but a gay African American man playing what is considered a "real mans" sport is news. And the fact that he is a minority based on skin color and an even greater minority based on sexual orientation makes it a somewhat compelling story.

If someone is willing to pay you $$ to follow your around with Camera's I would say 9 out 10 people take that deal. He is no different than what 90% of America would do.

You cannot just flip a switch and make bigotry and homophobia go away. Maybe, just maybe, Sams feels giving people a view into his personal life might help give people a better understanding that homosexuals are people just like everyone else. If the result is 1 more person saying you know what, my negative views about homosexuals are wrong, then it is worth it.

I think the show does not start airing until middle of the NFL season so it should have no bearing on him making the team. I do think the guy probably ends up on the practice squad. Kid was an SEC defensive player, he has talent.

No.

The term and dollars he will command won't be worth it. It would only be a move I would do if Vanek was a piece to put this team over the top which we all know he isn't.

I feel like Neal is a negative byproduct of that lockerroom in Pittsburgh (which needs some veteran leadership, IMO).

I think Lucic really feels like he can get away with anything.

Also: Once you've played the "Do you know who I am " card, you're forever marked as an entitled bumhole in my mind:

It really is. Even 2010 burns a little bit. The way everything fell into place. After the Boston comeback, I really thought to myself that it was finally our year. Then they took a dump on Montreal and I just felt like it was destiny. Frank the Blackhawks.
- JFlyers00

The Blackhawks were my childhood team. I was dreaming of when old Wirtz would die although I never dreamt Rocky would do so well with restructuring the organization so fast. The was the dream matchup for me. And then they won and broke my heart and I'll hate them until Kane is gone. I just hate Pat Kane. Not quite as much as, but with similar intensity to my hate for Sid.

I'd like to see him succeed so it becomes less and less of an issue as more and more athletes come out and prove they can make it or fail based on their athletic ability and their sexuality is nothing for anyone to fear or even care about. Because that's not the situation now. I work with plenty of gay people in an organization that has a strong workplace diversity policy (sexual expression, race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, disability). It is a nonissue now because it has been openly discussed and accepted. Someday it will be true in every league and at every level that if you can play, you can play.

How it ended was extremely ironic for me. During that horrible season to not be named, I told friends who would badger me that at least we would be getting Pat Kane. Well we lose the lottery and lose him. It gets better. One of these friends bought me an authentic USA jersey before the Olympics that year. They got me a Kane jersey to mess with me lol. Then the franker ends our season.

The jersey was too nice to burn although I wish I did.

Because I'm bored..

My dreams for the off season.

-Trade Lecavlier one way or another.
-Resign Kimmo
-I think he fizzled out at the end as a result of playing the olypmics
-Move Grossmann for what they can get
-Do not move Luke Schenn unless its a great deal

Things to explore:
-Trade Amac at the draft and go after Niskanen or another D via trade
-Move Hartnell in a good hockey trade
-Bring in a cheaper forward and/or defender (D.Moore, Jussi depeding on cost)
- Anything that could be an upgrade without a ridiculous commitment in dollar or cap
-Sell high on Simmonds

Regarding Simmonds, I love his attitude and the way he plays the game. But man he has hands of stone and is an awful possession player. I believe his numbers were a product of the position he was put in.

I think your post has some merit as well. I won't go as far to call him a douchebag. Do I think he's using his sexuality for financial gain? Yes. I think because the way society is, the media is giving it more exposure than it deserves. I take the attitude of live and let live. I may not agree with some things, but I would never condemn anyone based on their sexuality, religion, political views etc. To each their own.

I was reading down the list, nodding my head, until the very last bullet, lol.

Detroit had Holmstrom, Boston has Lucic, Chicago has/had Bickell/Byfuglien, LA has Brown... even great possession teams need somebody who is willing to plant their flag in front of the opposing net.

Play Simmer with stronger possession linemates, and I think his numbers at ES will improve by a lot.

agree

it would have to be a huge return imo, like a legit top pair defenseman under 26

also I think there is next to zero chance they trade Amac this summer, and I don't see Hartnell going away any time soon either

I have really mixed feelings on Kimmo returning

I kind of agree with this. But at the same time, I'm still baffled by how Simmonds does it. There's not much there to his frame.

I see your point though. For as much of a position Simmonds was put in to succeed on the PP, he was pretty much doomed at ES.

I'm not saying to trade him for the sake of trading him. I'm just not willing to label him as untouchable. I wouldn't hesitate to use him as a chip to get the defender we have been looking for is basically what I'm implying.

IMO, if you deal him, you could really get caught leaning too heavily on Hartsy, who will be 33 by the end of next season, with no successor in sight.

Think Simmer's just really strong for his size, and he's got the incredible balance that we all wish Hatsy had. Not sure why people keep knocking his hands... he makes a lot of nifty stickhandling plays in tight quarters.
