Benn/Cory Perry

can't go wrong wrong with either choice

- Marc D

We didn't even mention Patrick Kane either. His skill set doesn't fit perfectly with Giroux, but the overall talent would be overwhelming for teams.

im typically not one for the jerkoff players. but id be lying if i said perrys douchebaggery wasnt part of the reason i wanted him on crosbys line. all the talent in the world, but he wouldnt be shy about going over and giving marc staal a shot to the nuts for repeatedly crosschecking crosby in the head.
- stayinthefnnet

His not really a retaliation guy though. He's a cheap shot player. He's a more skilled version of Neal.

How about Zach Parise?
- johndewar

parise would be a good one too. i think hed benefit both g and crosby. tireless motor, heart and hustle guy who can still pot some.

but perry. on a line with crosby id legitimately set the over under at right around 44,45 goals a year, while hitting enough to create more space for the others, with a heavy dose of being a wiener sprinkled in there to prevent unnecessary liberties.

Everytime I think of Perry, I think of this fight against Mike Richards from when they were in juniors:

That makes me miss Richards. Perry is a horse and half. For Richie to fight him took balls.

Anytime you break a barrier it is news regardless of the guys talent.
Jackie Robinson was a talented player, but people talk more about him breaking the color barrier than talk about his skills. You bring up his name, and the first comments are first African American to play with Major League baseball.

I can only imagine the kind of media coverage that event would get today. It would dwarf the Sam's situation and there would be all kinds of specials, and reality programming on it.

Sams is not just a gay man, but a gay African American man playing what is considered a "real mans" sport is news. And the fact that he is a minority based on skin color and an even greater minority based on sexual orientation makes it a somewhat compelling story.

If someone is willing to pay you $$ to follow your around with Camera's I would say 9 out 10 people take that deal. He is no different than what 90% of America would do.

You cannot just flip a switch and make bigotry and homophobia go away. Maybe, just maybe, Sams feels giving people a view into his personal life might help give people a better understanding that homosexuals are people just like everyone else. If the result is 1 more person saying you know what, my negative views about homosexuals are wrong, then it is worth it.

I think the show does not start airing until middle of the NFL season so it should have no bearing on him making the team. I do think the guy probably ends up on the practice squad. Kid was an SEC defensive player, he has talent.

You raise some good points. I disagree with the race angle. I don't think it would matter if he's white or black. We have a black president.

I'd feel better about him if he donated the proceeds to a charity that battles racism or something.

As far as talent goes. I'd be shocked if the guy makes as much of an impact in the nfl as Jason Collins did in the nba. Collins career was solid.

Hopefully more and more gay prospects come out not needing tv shows to show their just like anyone else

No doubt.

After Perry threw that first punch, Richards pretty much gave it all back and then some.

I heard a story about a teenager who came out to his dad when Sam was selected. They were watching the draft together and he was so overwhelmed by the moment, he felt he needed to just come out with it.

His dad was happy for him, so the story does have a good ending.

When I see the replay, I get flashbacks to Stevens hit on Lindros.

To be honest, it looks more like Stevens hit on Kariya in the Finals. Such a (frank)ing bumhole.

Scott Hartnell falling down backwards regularly, sitting in the penalty box regularly, would be high comedy.

If you guys had Neal and Perry on the same team, it would be ridiculous.

I just can't get over dirty players. I would never want them on my team. No matter how talented they are.

It's just a lack of self control. It's flat out immaturity. He gets wrapped up in the moment and lacks foresight.

People always talk about the Flyers as goons, but just about every Flyer will drop the gloves if called upon. I don't remember Neal ever dropping the gloves. He needs to answer for his antics.

Yeah, the old over-the-counter argument:

"I deeply regret that I have tested positive for a prohibited substance in violation of the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program. I accept full responsibility for this error. As a professional athlete I am responsible for what I put in my body, and I am to blame for this mistake.

"I want to make it clear that this violation occurred because I ingested a product that can be purchased over-the-counter and which, unknown to me, contained a substance that violated the program. Unfortunately, I did not take the necessary care to ensure that the product did not contain a prohibited substance. I want to stress, however, that I did not take this substance for the purpose of enhancing my athletic performance.

"I apologize to my teammates and to the Buffalo Sabres organization, as well as to my friends and family. I have learned a great deal from this experience, something I hope to be able to share with younger players. I will accept this suspension and continue to work hard to prepare for the 2014-15 season."

You don't get 20-games for taking Sudafed, dude.
