Matt Moulson is now a healthy scratch. I wonder if that will hurt his wage demands this offseason.

Foot speed is an issue with him.

In an ideal world Horvat would come into camp this fall, play lights out, and earn that second line center spot. A 40 to 50 point year would be awesome! Trading Kesler, Edler and or Higgins for a LW'er would then be priority number one.

In an ideal world the Booth trade would have brought us a 35 goal scorer and the Ballard trade would have brought us a top 4 Dman.

The future is unknown except on HB, most here seem to know exactly what will happen.

I think if Ottawa decides that Spezza's time is up, Vancouver would be a great place for him. Sure he might have a higher cap hit that someone like Stastny, but Spezza is an offensive powerhouse. Put him on a line with Kessler and you have magic. Now the return for us has to a defenseman, Edler fits the bill. 1. He's Swedish which helps out if we put him next to Karl, and 2. He can stabilize the defensive. To be honest though, I don't know that a straight up Spezza for Edler would go through with us. Maybe add in a prospect or a pick.

Doubt we'd make a trade for an overpriced 1 year rental that toiled on your 3rd line for a good portion of the year. Pass.

Considering that he does only have that 1 year left I don't think you'd get much in return, and certainly not an Edler.

That's a bit harsh don't think? You guys were just talking about acquiring Stastny he'll cost you a bit less, but Spezza is no means overpriced for his production. We're talking about the same guy who put up 80+ points on a decent Ottawa team. Imagine if you pair him with a guy like Kesler. And if Vancouver gets back to form, Spezza will most likely sign long term with you guys, he wants to be on a winning team.

We're taking on more cap and Edler is signed to a great deal for 4 more yrs, they should be the one's throwing in a prospect or pick.

1) Stastny is a UFA. No need to trade for him.
2) We're no longer a contending team that someone like Spezza might help to push us over the final hurdle.
3) There are no guarantees that he'll re-sign for a reasonable cap hit. Given his age he'd be looking for that one last contract to set his retirement on.
4) Spezza couldn't put up 80+ points with Ryan, who is a fine player. Thinking he'll do so with Kesler is complete speculation.
5) He seems to be injured a lot.

You'll most likely be underwhelmed by whatever you do get back for Spezza. He certainly was a great player and maybe can rekindle some form again but with 1 year remaining on his contract he's a rental. Might be best to wait until the TDL.

Nothing against spezzas offensive ability because he does have it but he'd get destroyed in our division. He's soft as it is and now in his older years playing against sj, Anaheim , la and such he's be on the IR non stop

The thing is, spezza is a career ppg player. Even in this off year, injured abit he managed 65 points.
Henrik is .83 ppg career, and had 50 points, in an injury filled season. They make the same amount of money.....

With the exception of 1 or 2 seasons Spezza is more of a first line center than Hank.

Spezza will be easy to move. His actual salary this year is 4mil. Ottawa never come close to the cap ceiling so you can get them to retain 3 mil of the 7 mil on paper.
