I know all you do is look at current stats, it's bigger than that for me, sorry but it just is. If I'm trading Edler, under the current circumstances, I'm looking beyond next year.
Personally I'd like to trade Edler for a couple of Dallas prospects or a prospect and a pick. - LeftCoaster
I doubt any GM is giving up anything of value for Edler these days. That boat has sailed and Gillis missed it.
Whatever value he had at the beginning of last year has depleted. |

How is it lame? You're saying the same thing using Daniel's contract to justify a non-contending team acquiring a 34 year old winger? Not saying Ward has a bad contract, but he doesn't fit with this team's direction...at all.
This team needs youth with energy, speed and skill. Edler can bring back a solid prospect or younger player, scouts will still look at his past, size and skill and want their GM's to trade for him if available(for a reasonable price). - Nucker101
name the player you think Edler could bring back? |

Look at this year's UFA class for dmen, Niskanen will get like 5.5+ per, after him there's basically no other top 4 d-man that's under the age of 30. Edler is still fine as a 2nd pairing dmen, he needs the right partner and a new coach and fresh start.
He's no longer worth a 1st + good prospect most likely, but he has some value. |

Dallas

Pick the team. I think his value has dropped a lot.
I think you would get for younger players a guy like Gagner, Johansen (TB )Gardiner but you are not getting Kadri or Yakipov or Nyqvuist . |

From Dallas, I'd hope for a guy like Roussel(love this guy) and a 2nd or B type prospect? From the Ducks maybe in a DSP(I'm not a big fan, but just for the sake of an example) deal including a pick or prospect as well.
Would prefer someone with more offensive upside though. |

Johnson from TB is not happening. I'd trade him for Gardiner in a second. |

I don't believe that, NHL scouts and GMs can surely see the value in a guy who had a bad year, along with 98% of the other players on the Canucks. Not a coincidence. |

Dallas would laugh . I am not sure they are looking for a d man with a -39 +/- |

I don't think they'd laugh at that, call me crazy if you will. I could post it at HF on the proposals forum if you wanna see what other fans think? |

Pretty unethical to not let a persons career advance because you don't like the other owner. - LeftCoaster

If the organization wouldn't let him progress he'd just quit on them I'd assume. |

He has actually had only one and a half good years .
If someone phoned and asked Edler for Roussell I would laugh for about. 5 minutes then hang up. |

That's where we differ. I think the Canucks have been falling for 3 years, not just last year. |

Wow - really?
2012/13 - 22 pts in 45 games (pro-rated 40 pt yr)
2011/12 - 49 pts in 82 games
2010/11 - 33 pts in 51 games
2009/10 - 42 pts in 76 games.
Over these four years he's a 40 point dman, do have any clue what a 40 point dman is worth in today's NHL? He was also +10 over those four years, although not one of his strengths, he'll likely always be around even. |

They have, but that's got nothing to do with Edler? Which is what we were discussing - no? You're all over the place here lol. Stay with me brother.
The only bad year, which I've shown, Edler has had was last year/this year. |

Pro rated means nothing ,let's deal with actual numbers.
So he had his career year in 2011 alongside of a PMD Ehrhoff. He has his low point this year. He is probably somewhere in between . As the Sedins production has declined so has his, not a coincidence.
if we say that this entire team peaked in 2011 and we blame the coach again then we assume we are somewhere in the middle and sitting around 16 th and Edler is a 30 Pt Dman and Sedins are about 50 to 60 .
It is still a team in decline.
When our draft picks develop we will start the upturn again. |

Yes the team is in decline.
But are you suggesting a 48 game season should be worth the same as an 82 game season? |

Yeah, we could use another half-dozen of those. - Nucker101
My thoughts exactly. We've already got more than half a team made up of 3rd liners, what's 2 more to added to the mix? |

I'm not all over the place. Edler won't score 45 pts again because the Sedins have declined and Ehrhoff is no longer here.
I think some are still remembering 2011 and that is history. |

What happens in game 49 he gets another injury, Canucks start to deplete in the later part of the schedule so you can't assume. Toss that year out. |

That's why you pro rate their averages to 82 games(unless the sample size is like 20 or 30 games only, then it's a throw-away. |
